House is all brick and I'm having the wood trim etc wrapped. Some of the rotted wood will be replaced. Does it have to be pressure treated wood?

Most wood exterior trim is painted with semi-gloss paint, often white. I don't understand "wrapping" wood trim? You don't paint pressure-treated, which is usually only used for decks etc. that are left unfinished and exposed to the elements.

Interesting. On my house in Boston, which has ocean views and is subjected to salt air and northeasters, I used Azek for all the trim and Hardie Plank cement board for the siding.

Built in 1965+ something like this house http://www.remax.com/property/825172...burg-MD-20886/ See the wood trim around the garage etc..
btw, when this house sold in 1993 it prompted me to buy my current home. This went to contract in 4 days..

Use PVC Tony. Seriously...
It's more expensive than wood but will never ever rot. the rear of my house is southwest facing and the wood trim around my door was destroyed in 3-4 years. I replaced it with PVC and it still looks brandy-new.

As indicated you don't want to paint pressure treated wood so don't use it on your trim. In fact if you paint it a light color you may get some bleed through.

If you are going to wrap wood trim in aluminum, it can be either pressure treated or not... It's hidden behind the aluminum and never needs to be painted...
So it doesn't matter. Is my understanding.. it makes sense pressure treated should last longer.

hi tony,
i was about to go on my 3rd paint job in like 10yrs when
last year i did my clapboard and trim all in hardie board.
i recommend it but get a qualified installer.
also recommended is sherwin williams 'duration' paint.
regards john.

Recall that pressure treated lumber is not suitable for structural applications (the cuts in the wood to allow the chemical treatment to infuse the wood fundamentally weaken the wood).

Thanks for all the replys.
I'm getting it wrapped in vinyl, plastic, whatever ya call it. They started on it this evening. It is the same company (Korean owned) that did my siding (just the A frame is siding) in 04. Once it's done, together with my BMW windows and brick, it should like an old 'new' house. Then on to the front door, etc ..no mod money..

No help from me other then commenting on how beautiful your home looks. I recall saying that to myself seeing it in the back ground of your Son’s prom photo you posted a while back. I hope you’re able to keep the rustic look. People pay a lot in construction costs to try and duplicate that in the new builds.

Wait - there was another home, two blocks from the other one above, that was listed last Friday. Can't find the lisiing today (saw it yesterday), and some sites say it's now off the market. Have homesales picked up that much recently?
