Slight hesitation when cold

I have a 97 Carrera 2, 80k miles ... after a cold start, pulling away I can feel some slight hesitation when holding, say, mid-throttle in first gear, second gear, etc. -- 1500-3500 rpms or so. Car still pulls hard if you get on it, it's just hesitating a little under less input. Seems to clear up when the engine's warm. Any thoughts?

Do you only get it when it's cold-cold? Like when the car has sat overnight? I have same symptom - for maybe 3 minutes after starting in the morning.
I recently replaced all the vacuum lines on my car, plugs, plug wires, distributor caps, etc. Still does this same behavior, so I was thinking it was normal.

Gents, when the engine is cold it is a good idea to keep the RPM's under 3K until the oil temp come up to operating range. As a practice I usually short shift around 2800 until the engine is completely warm. I believe this is also referenced in the owners manual. With the cost of these motors it just makes good logical sense. BTW, I also experience the same hesitation when the engine is cold.
