Default Exploding rear windscreen

On my way up to the glorious Greenwich Concours this morning with my two young boys in the back, we traversed a deep pothole that I could not avoid. There was a loud bang, and the rear half of the car filled with glass. Fortunately, nothing happened to my precious cargo. But it being Sunday, I couldn't track down a replacement screen anywhere near Greenwich.

Back in Princeton, NJ, now and I have vacuumed a ton of shards out of every possible and impossible crevice in the car. Any recommendations for where to go to get a new windscreen installed properly? This is probably also a good time to check for (ugh) any rust in that area.

Thank you.

Try to locate the independent glass installer that works for the local Porsche dealers. Hire him to install it at your location.

I recall other 993 rear glass shattering. May be attributable to being slightly loose in mounting.

While you're working on a glass installer to replace the glass, do a search on the topic. I seem to remember this issue being related to the rear window defroster connection.

Good luck.

That would probably be mine!

This brings back many bad memories... If yours broke due to a pot hole then the cause is different to mine.

I have found the threads I wrote about my experiences if you are interested.

Does your insurance cover glass breakage? Good luck with the repair For what it's worth, I have had no issues since then.

I'd be interested in the remains of the trim that went around the rear window that the outer seal snaps into for a project I am working on.

Add me to the exploding rear window group. And mine happened while I was sitting in a restaurant! Go in, all is fine, walk back to car and window broken.

I contacted my local Porsche dealers, they all used the same company. I ordered a new window from Sunset and had the independent do it.

When I ordered my glass there were zero available in the states. Took about three weeks to get one shipped from the factory. Hopefully you'll have more luck.
