Hi Guys,
I am on my 4th 993 now (this time a turbo) and I am about to change the head unit to a period looking Pioneer as I cant find a Becker anywhere.
What I have always had is a slight 'pop' noise when you switch the radio on.
The current car has the Factory Sony CD Tuner, and even when you put it on, there is a slight pop for a split second.
The car has the upgraded speakers (2 in the bottom door, one tweeter).
I am having the new Pioneer (DEHP88RSII) fitted next week.
Is there anything I can do to stop this popping from happening?
Thanks in advance
Shan

The knack sound you hear is from the radio switching on the amp. The radio is still booting up but the signal to turn on the amp is being submitted immediately when you hit the on button. The right way would be a delayed "on" activation for the amp.
You can check if it doesn't make that sound, if you disconnect the power on cable to the amp, switch on the radio and connect the cable for amp remote on afterwards. I have a Parrot and it does the knack sound too. Supposedly they work on a solution.
My older Sony never did that though.

Does it have an aftermarket amp? If it's wired incorrectly, your amp might be always on. Should have a switched power trigger.
Sounds like you could talk to whoever is installing that new head unit. I have been thinking about getting the Premier version of this head unit for a long time. Tell us how you like it.
