Turn Signal Cancel No Workee

Hello All,
The turn signal cancel on my '96 993 C2 coupe quit working last week. It's really annoying to have to manually cancel the turn signals, especially when I forget and realize I've been driving several blocks with them blinking away.
Is there a fix for this without having to replace the whole turn signal switch assembly? If the assembly needs replaced, is this a fairly straightforward DIY project? Thanks!
Dave

From what I understand, the "self-cancelling" turn signal is a fairly simple mechanical device located inside the switch. My guess (sitting here with my feet up on my desk - and having not seen your car) is that you're looking at a replacement. Probably will involve getting inside the steering column - which might mean removing the air bag. Not for the amateur DIY person.

Thanks for the info all. Looking on flea-Bay and elsewhere it looks like the switch assembly is one unit along with the wiper control. Moderately pricey for a new unit, depending on the source.
Checked out the DIY forum on this site, looks like airbag / steering wheel removal isn't too big of a deal. But, still need to determine if the self-cancelling mechanism inside the switch assembly can be repaired without replacing the whole assembly, or not.

The last time we sourced one it was $300+, if I recall correctly
The assembly is riveted together. The piece that "cancels" the turn signal is plastic and inside the assembly. I don't think it is repairable but I've never taken it apart to find out.

Hey Dave,
You have to be a member to access the for sale classifieds but this link shows a picture of one for sale with many other parts. No individual price listed but I am sure he would work with you if it is still available.

I was going to mention that but I figured we'd make him join first then tell him it's different.
OBC DIY from Robins site makes it seem you could add it in to any of the stalk assemblies, but I have no personal experience with OBC.

"The steering column stalk for the OBC is a totally separate piece from the steering column switch and is held on with just two screws and a wire tie so you can buy part 993 613 352 00 01C which is cheaper and just transfer the new OBC stalk to your existing steering column switch regardless of which steering column switch you have."
