1st mod..... short shifter, but which one?
After doing a lot of research I've shortlisted 2.....the Rothsport or OEM RS. Would appreciate some input from people who have tried both. What are your opinions on what you chose to install? I ought to replace the rod too, but the $450+ for the RS is out of my budget, so I'm considering the golden rod from FD.
What are the ergonomics like for the Rothsport? The top of the lever looks like it might be a little on the small side. Which setup with raise the grip the highest. I need about 1-2" over stock to clear the bolsters. Will both setups offer about the same ~25% reduction in throw?
Cheers

Buy the FD Motorsports short shifter and linkage. This uses the factory RS shifter which is about an inch longer than stock. The front linkage cups are a known weakness which this unit addresses.

I've had both... the Rothsport is beautiful and shifts well, very short throws, perhaps a little 'notchy'.
IMHO the best value is the FD Motorsports modified RS-SSK + Golden Rod. If you have money to burn, Rothsport and FD Motorsports (no affiliation, but avid supporter of both ) have modified the Rothsport 2-piece SSK to work with the Golden Rod.

I have the FDM parts, love them!
I have driven a car with the Rothsport and it's great too. The only downside is that the shifter **** is bare metal, thus it can be uncomfortably icy on chilly mornings. I'm sure the converse is true for hot climates, say getting into the car after it's been parked in the sun on a hot day...
If I did the Rothsport shifter I think I would send it off to one of the leather guys mentioned here, probably just a thick wrap on the top (no padding) would help a lot.
