The old Pirellis that the previous owner of my car put on were Porsche N-Spec tires. But I recently put some "Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Specs" on the car and while these Dunlops are high performance tires, they (unless I am mistaken) are not labeled as Porsche N-Specs. So I voted "No" in your poll.

Yes and no. I have Auto-x'd on Bridgestone RE11's (Non N spec) last year which were crap relative to my previously used Michelin PS/2's (N spec). However, if I were just to use the tires on my daily driver wheels I think they are superior as they are much more compliant and for DD purposes "turn in" (their downfall in Auto-X) is more than adequate. Before that I had Michelin Pilot Sport Ribs (N spec) which are pure crap for all uses. Granted it's a fifteen year old tire technology.

With all that being said I have a set of Sumitomo HTRZIII's on my regular cars and they are terrific. Actually they are very very similar to the aforementioned Bridgestone's at half the cost. At the end of the day it you just drive around town and go on spirited drives they are tough to beat

I think PS/2's are the bomb though, they're light, have terrific turn in, grip like no ones business, come up to temp quickly and are pretty good in the rain. Unfortunately, they are quite expensive.

Yes and no. PS2s are N1 on the Carrera III wheels, the turbo twists have Pirellis that are just "regular" tires.

Default I voted No.

and if I did use them now, it would be because they just happened to be N-spec. My selection will be based on performance and price, not because they are approved by Porsche.

Maybe at one point in time, a particular type of tires was tested on my 993 but tires produced 16 years later are totally different animal. IMO

No. Driving on B.F. Goodrich G-Force Sport and like them a lot.
N spec'd tires were like twice as much, can't be twice as good!

Thanks for your replies.
Very interesting results !!
I thought basically everybody was using them...

There's a .pdf on the total911 website
It lists all of the tyres that are currently homologated for Porsche 911s..

993 Convertible: Falken Azenis RT 615
993 4S: Yokahama AD07

I like them both much better (in the dry) than Conti, BS02 and Pirelli. Did never spend the money for Michelin but I am sure they are good (and expensive).

Two of my friends beat the sh...t out of the Sumis on the race track and they are quite happy.
