Default Factory M030 Sport Suspension Question

I posted a FS thread in RL area and have received a couple of questions concerning application. Hopefully someone with far more knowledge can offer up an answer.
The 993 I bought came with Bilsteins HD coilovers. This system replaced new M030 sport shocks that were installed by the PO and kept on for only 1500 miles. I'm being asked whether they will fit on a WB car and my feeling is, there shouldn't be a problem. Can anyone chime in here and confirm this.

Part numbers:

Fronts: 993 343 041 38; 993 343 042 38 (Height adjustable)

Rears: 993 333 052 37; 993 333 051 37 (Fixed height)

I have them listed for SOLD including droplinks. Is this a fair price given the 1500 miles of use and that they list for over $2K on Pelican etc.

I think they will fit a WB car just fine. However, at 27K miles they are pretty much... umm...

These don't have 27K on them. The PO bought the shocks new from Porsche as an upgrade and only had them installed for 1500 miles, before he replaced them with Bilstein HD's. They are practically brand new.

I ssume the package you are referring to (naturally somewhat lower in price from Sunset Imports) includes the M030 shocks, the M030 springs, the M030 swaybars, and the drop links . I think it would be good to get a price for the M030 shocks alone and start from there. The drop links are about $100-125 each.

I put the individual part numbers (stamped on each shock) into the search search engine on the Pelican website. These are the prices that the site returns:

993 343 041 38 Description: Shock absorber Price $507.25

993 343 042 38 Description: Shock absorber Price $507.25

993 333 052 37 Description: Shock absorber Price $429.00

993 333 051 37 Description: Shock absorber Price $429.00

These are individual shock prices and don't appear to represent a kit.

I'm "shocked". If you call Sunset Imports on Monday and get a true reading you will have real basis for pricing going forward either up or down. For now here's what you get from Carnewal in Belgium for $2095 ED ($2600 US), and slightly less than $2000 from Sunset last time I checked:
(By the way the package for a C4 vs. C2 is 200 ED less so there must be some difference if the wide body in question is a C4.)

P93 Euro Sport Suspension Package
P93 RoW M030 Sport Suspension Kit
This kit comes with all the parts needed for this conversion:
Shocks for front and rear, the four springs, stabilizer bars, drop links, bolts and bushes.
For all '94 to '98 cars with the standard suspension.
Lowers the car 3/4" to 1" from standard

All parts are new, oem and come with warranty .

Price for C2 cars : 2.095 Euro shipping included.
Price for C4 cars : 1.895 Euro shipping included.
Factory RoW (Rest of the World) M030 shocks for front and rear with four springs.
The parts for stabilizer bars contain:
22 mm stabilizer bar for the front
2x 22mm rubber bushing for the front stabilizer
drop link left for the front stabilizer (not included in the kit for the C4 cars).
drop link right for the front stabilizer (not included in the kit for the C4 cars).
special bolts for the front drop links (not included in the kit for the C4 cars).
20 mm stabilizer bar for the rear
2x drop link for the rear stabilizer
2x 20mm rubber bushing for the rear stabilizer

Hey Tony,

Good to see you on RL! I am very surprised by the afore mentioned pricing... I just purchased the ROW33 kit from Sunset Imposts, the price was $ 734.44... no shipping and no taxes since I picked it up in Beaverton (just outside Portland Oregon).

Take care Tony,

Bert

They should be OK than. They just don't tend to last very long.

Hi Bert. Good to see you too. Believe it or not, till just a few days ago it was still cool here. Now I'm wanting to be where you guys are. Hope you make it over here again next year. Be sure to let us know.

Bill and I just installed that setup on my 993. I love it as I'm sure you do too.

Yeah, recent actual reports have been for the original Monroes now being removed and replaced by folks at 65,000 to 105,000 miles. Just awful.

People can remove and replace them at 65K miles. Or 105K miles. Or never. The fact that Monroes are usually dead by 30K miles should not deter anyone from doing whatever they want to do with their suspension.

Hey, I bought my previous cab with 112k miles with original Monroes. Guess what, they still held the car from flying up in the air after hitting a bump. But that was about all they were good for - not anything else, let alone, being a part of a Porsche suspension. Actually, I'm wrong her. You could also use them as a lamp base or a crude hammer.

I don't think this is exactly true. I would like to know the age of these shocks that fail at 30k miles, I suspect about 11 to 15 years.

BTW Corrdo, forgot to add the $200 drop links

Thanks for the info guys.
I'll call Sunset Monday to get a definitive US price for the components as they seem to offer the cheapest prices on OEM parts.

I started paying attention to 993s when the youngest ones were 6 years old. The several I've driven on the original Monroes were all dead. At the time the Rennlist wisdom was about 30k lifespan. My observations confirmed that so far.

As far as age, I'm not sure it could really affect a shock. What was odd to me is that shocks would die early both on smooth roads of California (where my first car was from) and on bombed-out roads of Boston and NYC at similar rates. My current car has 80k miles of smooth Florida roads. The shocks are deader than Elvis and been like that for years, I'm sure.

What's also interesting, is that everyone going to HDs comments how the car is completely transformed. Yep, actual working, damping shocks are nice I'm sure that new Monroes would also be nice upgrade. For the car that's not driven a lot and for an oner looking for some comfort - I don't see why not.

Prices from Sunset:
993 343 041 38 $331.36
993 343 042 38 $331.36

The rears were about $275 each.

Total $1212.72 plus the droplinks. Plus shipping.

If anyone is interested I'll sell the complete setup for $475 + shipping.
