Do Radar Detectors Really Work for you?
Looking to purchase a V1, but not sure is it really work in CA ? Cause heard the C.H.P. mostly using laser. Please advise.

It'll work. I have a V1....and it does detect laser. Problem is if you get dinged with laser, it's too late. The V1 is good for radar and you'd need laser jammers for laser.

I've had a few V1s but recently I'm increasingly a fan of the 9500ix, esp for areas with speed and traffic cameras. Also being able to store probably speed trap areas are a plus. Currently running both V1 and 9500ix but will need to work out mounting locations as the Escort is just stuck to the windshield for now. Also need a laser shifter at some point but no money for toys now

follow the advice on "radardetector.net" and what you'll come to see is that what's state of the art today is a combination of V1 with a laser interceptor or Li. get a V1 and you'll love it. here's what a laser interceptor sensor looks installed on a 996tt.

I can tell you after spending 15 years as a law enforcement officer and almost 9 of those as a motorcycle officer I have seen them all! With the advances in laser technology many times detectors just let you know you are about to get stopped! If I was working a highway I would spend time looking (scanning) for speeding vehicles before I ever raised my laser/lidar to aquire the vehicle's speed. The reading is instant. On open highways we can pick violators up as much as 3/4 of a mile away and follow them in. I never wrote at those distances but many times violators never knew we had them "locked" in and once they were within 1500-1900 feet we would stop the lock and pursue them. It was obvious if a laser/lidar detectors was on in a vehicle at lock because the speeds would decrease rapidly . Each time a radar detector was found in a vehicle we listed that there was a detector on the notes of the citation and the prosecutors would not plea bargain the tickets because the courts believed it showed an "intent" to speed. Doppler radar is different and detectors are more beneficial with those because the cone of the beam is so wide. I am not trying to say the laser/lidar is not at all beneficial but I can tell you they are no fool proof insurance. Let the bashing begin

+993. I had a V1 and found it was an amazing device. It had the uncanny ability to tell me the exact moment I was going to get a ticket. I named it "Miss Cleo" because of it's psychic abilities to know when I was about to get nailed. It may have saved me more than once, but it's no coincidence that I haven't had a ticket since I sold it on eBay a couple of years ago (and I still enjoy a less than legal spirited drive from time to time).

I had a V1 and it worked great - it would darn near jump off the windshield, lights ablaze, alerts sounding, when lasers hit me, and I gained a precious minute to reflect on the fact that I was soon to be out another couple hundred dollars. The false alarms were loud and plentiful, too - I learned to brake abruptly whenever I drove past a supermarket, drug store, or gas station with automatic doors.
After a year or two of neurotic, paranoid driving and lots of tickets borne from a false sense of security, I sold it - been happier ever since.

As the rat bastard LARPY points out, none of the radar detectors work against "instant on" laser.
If you are speeding and a cop uses a laser on you, you are screwed.
If you get one, please report back with your experiences.

I never drive without my V1. Yes, laser is hard to beat. I was nailed with laser six months ago in the Miata but "somehow" the officer lost track of me after he took too long to pull out of the median. There is enough K band radar around here that the V1 is still effective. Additionally, the state and/or county are putting up automated mobile units running X band that take your photo, denoted by a flash, if you speed.

With the risk of sounding too smug, the thing that works for me is common sense. I've never owned a radar detector and have never been issued a speeding ticket (I drive around 18K miles a year). That's not to say that I always drive at the speed limit, far from it. Just think ahead before you go crazy with the right foot and you'll be OK.

I use a V-1 anytime I am on the open road. During the raod trip back from Texas after picking up the tt it saved me several times. The CHP still use radar and not Laser on the I-5 and I-15. In the City of Los Angeles they have gone to Laser so the detectors are worthless.
