My V1 has definitely bailed me out on a couple of occasions.

It doesn't replace the need to keep a keen eye ahead and general awareness and it will not save you in all situations. Many times I have picked up on the cruiser visually first. BUT, it has more than paid for itself in saving me from a ticket on a few occasions.

That may be true, but a ticket on your record that, say, takes away your good driving discount from your insurance company, can cost you thousands over 3 years.

Always fight the ticket, always take traffic school to keep it off your record, if you can. Keeping your driving record clean, as opposed to just having just 1 ticket on there, can mean giving an additional $1800-$4000 to your insurance company over the 3 years the ticket is on your record....

The best place to use a RD is in VA where they're illegal. The fine for getting caught with one is cheaper than the cheapest speeding ticket they have and they don't confiscate them anymore. The ban makes the cops lazy and they don't even try to be stealthy, figuring all the sheeple will abide by the ban. Twice I had cops lean inside my passenger window to talk and they didn't notice my RD above the rearview mirror and my RD's saved me there many times.

Yes, that's true. But I was pretty sure I'd make a good impression on the judge and be allowed to do the traffic school if I got convicted for the ticket. I was the only defendant who showed up looking like I was going to a job interview. Others were wearing shorts or otherwise looked sloppy, barely spoke English, etc. I'd appeal a conviction before rolling over and letting it go on my record, if the judge didn't allow traffic school. Traffic school is basically extortion by the state.

State: We say you were doing something dangerous and your insurance rates should get hiked. But we'll let you buy your way out of it and it will be our little secret.

Eff them.

I agree. The only thing more crooked than revenue-chasing police are the insurance companies they shill for.

In these days of shrinking municipal budgets, I think fewer departments are going to be shelling out the bigger bucks for laser units when they aren't necessary. More than enough revenue can be collected using radar alone so I can't imagine why they would feel the need to spend the money on more expensive devices.
That makes a whole lot of sense, or since I'm also considering Escort 8500 x50, is what I want to hear. There are sooo many people running around unprotected, why should a cash-strapped agency invest in the latest stuff if ol' reliable still brings in the bucks? I'm sure this pisses off the laser equipment sales reps using obsolescence-based scare tactics to land juicy government P.O.s

Chuck W.- did you ever see any real-world data in a trade magazine on the penetration rate of radar vs. laser?

In some brief research, I found that the Escort 8500 x50 did well in testing and is a good value at sub-$300.

Yeah, you're also supposed to report all of your sales tax due on out-of-state purchases (cough cough Amazon).

Default Interesting info

I have had a K-40 radar and laser unit -built in- front and rear bumpers and hidden indicator lights inside the car for over 12 years. It has saved me more than I can remember for both radar and LAser. My experience with LAser-police turn it off and on and so my unit goes off and on. So I know something is coming. In Sweden they use Photo radar towers on non highway roads. With a warning sign before-my unit gives me a major warning before the sign can be seen.
After having detectors for so long I find it keeps me more aware of what might be around and I never speed at night! I am not suggesting anyone speed but it is a Porsche! **** happens to your right foot!
We all know speeding is for tracks only!

Not me. I never worked traffic. It is a necessary evil of police work, but I was always focused on other areas. This would be a queston for Larpy.

the dsi informs me for speed camara's with are fixed or mobile,
here we have traject controle, so they calaculate you average speed
when that is to high you get a price.
the dsi shows when it starts
how long it is
your speed
your average speed

i can do also my km registration with it for business km of private
i can have a laser jammer

The K40 is an ok radar detector, but the laser jamming capabilities are limited compared to Blinder M27 and Laser Interceptor. I have heard many of the k40 radar detector parts are manufactured by Escort/Beltronics.

For an installed radar detector the Beltronics STiR+ is the King. For a windshield mount radar detector, I like Escort 9500IX, Redline and the V1. Each one has it's +/- There are some good articles about them at: www.radardetectorforum.org
