OT - The Next Generation
I was just thinking about how much we all seem to love our cars, and like me, many of you waited with the patience of Job to get your hands on one. As I have posted before, my son might possibly love my beast as much as do I. So after much thought, some reverse seat time, and a lot of doubt, I let him drive the car to pick up his date. It was only about three miles away, and then I picked up the car at the pre-prom. It was a strange feeling hearing those Stage2s roll down my driveway with me not in it. He did fine! The girl's father offered one of the best quotes I can think of: "When I saw your son drive up in that car, I told myself, If his father trusts him to drive that car, I guess it is ok to trust him with my daughter
The drive and what led up to it was to him, the very best part of a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

That is a great story!
When I was 17 my father let me drive one of his work cars, a beat up Chevy van! When you are that age, a car's a car and I was glad to have it. To go to the Prom in a 911 is a dream.

Thanks gappy. The good thing about that is he will be going to GW in DC in the fall: no room for a car!!!!!
Thanks magdaddy. I didn't go easily, but in the end, I know it was the right thing to do.
Hey cabrio993, The Buick runs like a top. I was transferring the extra inflator, safety beacons, GPS etc from one car to the other. PS: He once loved the whitebird until he fell under the spell of the frauline!!!
Erik, I am humbled by your statement! Thanks so much!!!

The Buick looks cool! Hey, can't blame the kid. He's got good taste like his dad!
Good for you ...I hope to do similarly when I get there!
Our cars are precious to us, to be sure. But what better way to share the 993 love than with ones we love. That your son has earned your trust says as much about him as it does of he who raised him. Best to you, sir!

I fear that today's 18 year old girls would be just as impressed by an Evo or STi, as long as it had Facebook integrated into the nav system. But nice gesture, Dad! Let's hope I can be as brave when my time comes.
I like you Buick, too. I'd love a Chevelle 'vert from that era. Perfect complement to a MB coupe!

Awesome story, great looking kid...
(and speaking of Lewis Hamilton, I bet your son is smart and mature enough NOT to say "I am as good as Senna was" or "I blew Alonso away in 2007")
