Idiot of the Year Award- Locked Out of car
On my way home from work I finally remembered to stop at a boat shop and pick up some 303 Aerospace Protectant that I have heard so much about. Got home and quickly went about cleaning the interior. Had the key in ignition radio on, got tired of the door buzzer and turned key off, pulled key back 1/2 inch to silence the chime. Cleaned center console switches got out of car went to other side and Idiot locked the doors while cleaning console with the door open.
Any Ideas??????
Heres what I have learned/tried so far:
First: I know I am an idiot
Second: No I don't have a spare (further proof that I deserve the idiot of the year award)
Third: Thanks to rennlist (Thatcher) I have a replacement drivers door seal so I figured I would poke a coathanger (actually 2 taped together) through the old seal and try to hit central lock- no luck so far, I don't want to scratch anything so I am putting this on idea on hold until I have a few beers and it seems like a good idea again.
Fourth: I called local dealers to find no help at all (parts closed, sales could give a sh*t less) In a flash of genius I realized dealers are still open on the left coast so I called Sunset and talked to a very helpful parts guy who can order me a key on Monday, but no guarantee it will work and no returns. Only $61.00 so I will do this even if I get in, but it takes a week to get it.
Fifth: Called the nearest locksmith, when I said Porsche he said he would rather not even try. (I live in the sticks so the "city" guys don't want to help out it seems). A search seems to say if I had a keycode a locksmith can cut a key, dealers can't give out the keycode and I have never seen anything like a keycode in the owners manual (that is convieniently locked in the car)
Sixth: The 303 seemed to work pretty good, but if you people wouldn't have suggested it I wouldn't be locked out right now so it's "your" fault. OTOH the central lock button is looking pretty clean through the window.
Any other ideas or secret's to reentry?
It is a 95 no immobilizer, alarm is not set.
If you pull the inner door handle with the door locked does it unlock the door??? (don't want to scratch it up if this doesn't even open the door)
TIA

You realize if you had a cab with the top down you wouldn't have this problem....
Sorry, that sucks.
I can verify that pulling the door handle unlocks the door on my '97. I just verified it in the garage.
A dealer can print you an info sheet that will have the key code. I have one for my car in my possession.
FWIW, I did the same thing years ago in my 968. I left it parked until I got a new key. Never could get into it.

Thanks for confirming the door handle thing. I'll try it right now.
Sunset said they couldn't give out the key code info??? I might try to call PCNA monday for there advice.
Thanks again.

Here's a possibility.
If you look in the electrical department at Home Depot they make long semi rigid fiberglass rods for fishing wire. They are usually called glow sticks, or fishsticks.
IF you could get that through the seal between the quarter window and main door window, you would have a decent chance at pressing the central locking button as the stick is fairly rigid. Its also threaded to accept all kinds of attachments (think weights, etc here)
My dealer did verify ownership prior to giving me the key code, so that is probably valid.
Good luck, I'll keep thinking.

A suggestion I make to everyone who locks themselves out of a car--hidden magnetic key boxes. Something I learned when I was 16 and have yet to get locked out of a vehile over the last 25 years.
A $3 investment will pay for itself quickly.

I remember reading on Pelican how one guy pried off the window seal on the side rear window, popped out that window and was able to unlock the car. He had to replace the seal but that was cheaper than paying for a locksmith. This was on an older 911 so don't know if it'll work on the 993.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Thanks for all of the replies.
I am going by there tommorow. Will check it out. Thanks again.
Please refer to first and second things learned in my original post. Bottom line: I am an idiot.
Believe it or not I searched before I posted but, my door is closed all the way so it is not possible to get it open further, but the rigid sticks seem to be the answer.
I looked at that right off the bat and if the replacement key I plan to order monday doesn't work that will probably be my final answer. It is glued but if I cut the old seal and glue I think I could get it out with a large suction cup.
Update: Cooler heads prevailed and I gave up the coathanger for now, way too much possibility for damage. I'll check out fishsticks tommorow and see if they might work. Otherwise my punishment is to stare at the car for a week or 2 without being able to drive it (right after corner balance and align, so ready to be driven).
Thanks again.

Stop by the actual local dealership with the title to the car in hand ((or registration or some other proof of ownership). They should be able to cut you a key on the spot. Sunset would not do it as they can't verify ownership.

Seems like new Stealer key is your bestest option, although I personally wouldn't give up on the coat hanger.
Please keep us posted.
Oh, and your not the only "bone head" here..
