Dry silicone lube would be my guess. Maybe salt creep??

Taist it, if you face goes numb quadcammer is correct.

Its mold release. I see it on a lot of 993's.

Mold release is stuff put into the mold so the rubber doesn't stick to the mold when vulcanized. That's why tires are greasy for the first 100-200 miles or so.

But that just sounds so damn dry. The car has been to Miami, right? Right?

Close. East Bay, CA. I don't think this car has ever left Kalifornicopia, although I am the 2nd owner and I don't know for sure. Perhaps it picked up, "The Lady" in Tijuana....
