Default "Porsche Things" in Germany

I'll be in Germany this September and am looking for "Porsche things" to do while there, such as museums, factories, etc. Any specific suggestions?

Aside from the usual main automobile museums, there's a new Porsche Prototype museum in Hamburg that's looks very interesting:

I've been there and really enjoyed it! Besides Hamburg is a wonderful city which tourist usually avoid. I lived there for almost three years and loved it (but to each is own).

Don't forget that you can book a factory tour in both Zuffenhausen and Leipzig.

Also suggest you troll some of the German Porsche magazine and club sites closer to your date to see if there are any events happening in September.

It all depends on where you'll be and for how long. While not Porsche, there are many other auto-related sites worth visiting. I heartily recommend the Schlumpf Collection of Bugattis (and others) at the French National Auto Museum in Mulhouse, France, just over the border. In addition to the track, Nurburgring also has a fine museum.

Should you decide to tour the plant in Leipzig - visit Dresden! An absolute must, well worth the time and only 2 hours away!!

I second the recommendations of Hamburg and the Prototyp-Museum.
That being said, where in Germany are you going to be? More specific information on your location may yield better and more practical results. If your base is Munich, going to a Museum in Hamburg is not practical without at least one overnight stay.

I think the small workshop / homestead / museum in Gmund, Austria would be a cool idea.

The museum in Gmund has great stuff and the view of the mountains and valley around the original werks is stunning. Its near the Hohe Alpenstrasse in Austria. Zell am See is nearby (the vacation home of the Porsche family).

The 'Ring is on the MUST do list next time I get to Germany!

Not exactly responsive, but BMW and Mercedes museums are worthy!

(And totally non-responsive, but very worthy to get your head around what's important--a visit to Dachau.)

I second the suggestion to visit the BMW and Mercedes museums.

The other suggestion that I'd strongly recommend is the Sinsheim museums:

Awesome collection of cars, including lots of exotics, F1 cars, and other novelties.
