My SC didn't either, not really, but when the starter went bad, I had to push start it occasionally, never got stranded for it though.

My immobilizer has scared me on a few occasions. On one hand I do like the added theft security of the immobilizer, but frankly I hardly ever park my car in questionable areas of town and when I do go somewhere where my car would be parked for any length of time I tend to drive my daily driver Jeep Wrangler instead of the Porsche. As I contemplate turning my 993 more and more away from being a GQ and more towards being a track car, I question the need to have an immobilizer (besides my insurance company was told about the immobilizer and that did not seem to matter, they still charge me a premium on insurance).

Twice, immobilizer. First time was my fault, low battery in the remote. Second time just last week; immobilizer totally crapped out, had to replace it's brain and get new remotes. Mine is a 95 OBD 1, so it apparently can't be deleted without some PITA wiring changes.

I think I'm going to buy one of those keychain pill vials at the drugstore and keep a spare battery in it, then hang it on my keyring with the remote.

Battery died, needed a jump, checked all surrounding businesses and no one had a set of cables. Wife came to the rescue. I now carry both a jump box and cables....

Rear tire picked up a 4" bolt, glad my spare, tools and compressor were there (I have removed them on occasion to save weight, not anymore). 15-20 minutes back on the road.

Only once in 161K miles. Alternator belt broke about 1 mile from the nearest independent shop. I was able to drive there. So not stranded.

I am coming up on another 9 day 4500 mile western states trip, like I did with the 993 several times. Some of the remote places we will be, I would not want to be in any car but a 911 variant.

Alternator once. Needed a tow.

Dead battery once or twice or three times.

Immobilizer issue needed a tow, wouldn't start, at least 2 X...

Still loving my car, though. Been in the shop for 2 weeks now waiting on manifold part after getting my SAI ports cleaned to rid of the check engine light. I'm hating this 155K mi minivan they gave me as a loaner (left wiper doesn't clear the rain off and the lights on the van at night are so bad I can't even see the road!) but I'm happy to have a free loaner, that's for sure.

Yes, but it was my fault. Car had been hard to start from time to time, so I consulted this forum and learned the DME relay was probably the culprit, but of course i delayed in doing anything about it. Finally wouldn't start at all and yup, it was the DME relay. I used to carry a spare with me when I owned an '88, but I haven't gotten a spare for my '95, good idea to do though.

Twice. Belts both times. But considering it's getting close to 180K, I'd guess that's pretty reliable.

I've never been stranded in a Porsche. Maybe just lucky because I've had instances of alternator lights, broken clutch pedal clusters, etc. It just always seems to happen near the house. Plus I do keep a tool bag in both cars with spare belts, fuses, etc.

Pill bottle is not needed. I keep my spare battery in the ashtray with a small phillips screwdriver. If remote is dead just use key in door to get to ashtray with parts and tool.
