More accurately, we should all be pimps and the more experienced hookers are better earners.

No, not really. My car is a garage queen and she intends on staying that way.
However, I wouldn't mind buying myself a track prepared Subaru and thrashing the living daylights out of it without feeling any guilt. Standard 993's (not race prepared) are road cars (for sunny days).

I find the key to happiness and long life would be a 993 C2S GQ and a 993 C2 track car.

Maybe 2010 GT3RS for a track beast, and a 98 C2S for a queen...

We had a discussion not 24 hours ago with me, 2010 RS owner, 2007 RS owner, and 2010 GT3 owner (all the other guys are on here, too) about this. All have owned pretty much every variant of 911 over the past 20 years (for one it has been over 30).

If you've got the bucks, great. But I submit that until you get outside the parameters of what we, as amateurs, can appreciate, basically what you're buying is the ability to go faster down the straights. I don't feel compromised at all in the yellow car against any of the later cars. (Though I've not run against a new RS.) Given wheel-to-wheel competition, sure, the latest and greatest is a given. If that were the rules going in, I'd be out as no way I'm spending that much on a car. Ever. But for screwing around on the track, the overall enjoyment factor, the 964/993 is the sweet spot of the line when you figure cost. Even the new GT3 owner was most nostalgic for his RSA. Over his 3.8L C2S, Mk 1 GT3, Mk 2 GT3, and the 997 GT3 he just traded for the '10.

Why even own one if you can't experience it in its native environment? Get a Corvette instead. Wax is for wimps.

Many of the downsides to tracking a 993 are summarized and explained well by Steve on http://www.rennsportsystems.com/engines%203.6-3.8.html. He explains that running a 993 at its rev limit for long periods of time exposes its inherent weaknesses ranging from rods/rod bolt problems to hydraulic lifters sticking(resulting in a dropped valve).

The transmission's weaknesses are also exposed with overheating and ring/pinion failure.

I recently purchased a dual purpose track/street 993 for my daily driver since i have a dedicated track 993 and thus can swap parts with each other. I didn't want a garage queen since i believe that they have their own set of problems from inactivity. In addition, a track car usually has a upgrades to its suspension, brakes, safety etc.... and is thus a better value.

However, i must agree that simply changing the car's fluids will not prevent accelerated wear on the bearings rod bolts and other engine parts, etc... After having gone through two engines (i lost one due to stuck hydraulic lifter) i find that the rule of thumb that a engine run at race conditions has an approximate lifespan of 100 hours. I am not concerned about my 993 street car since i am not going to track it, its compression numbers are good I am also going to back date with mechanical lifters to be on the safe side. Again, steve's site sums these points up well.

Everything wears out faster under race/DE conditions (lets face it: a DE is a race in which no one is officially keeping score) and as long as the parts are replaced when needed and appropriate mods made, a car with a track history is not a necessarily a negative and can be a plus. Just be informed and know how a car is affected by race conditions and what problems can be predicted.

Living my dream! I had a beautiful garage queen C4S and a semi track-prepared C4S but I sold them both and your garage is my new goal. Just have to find the right cars now...

Agreed and the GT3 idea is within reach for anyone considering a C2 as a track car. A well-built C2 will probably cost $50-$70k. MK1 7GT3s are now in the top range of that.

Joking aside, when I have more time on my hands in the future for track fun, something like this would be the way to go for me. As a lot of conversion work has already been done there would be no associated guilt of converting my queen!!!!
