M030/M033 springs vs H&R?
I've put Bilstein HDs and H7R springs into my previous 993 cab. The lowering was nice, but with Boston streets being what they are, the combo was a bit stiff. Not too bad, maybe a bit lower than it really needed to be. That car is gone now.
But it got me thinking. If i am to autocross the new 993 cab occasionally, I should probably lower and stiffen it a bit. So HDs and H&Rs is one possibility. The other is M030 or M033 springs. The attraction is that it'd keep me in Strictly Stock local classes and allow me to stay on street tires.
So... What height would 30s or 33s bring? What's their rates? Has anyone compared ride and handling directly between them and H&Rs? How are 30 and 33 different? Has anyone tried anything other than HDs? Koni doesn't make 993 rears for some bizarre reason.
PS. Before y'all scream PSS9/10 at me, please don't. I'm not interested. I already have an appliance that I can adjust the shocks on and I don't want to do this on 993. Plus it would take me out of SS class anyway.

Had H&R's over HD's on a 4S, and the front end clashed & banged over rough pavement as the top three coils were slapping together: also, ran out of threads on the top trying to get ROW Sport-10mm ..... so switched to ROW MO30's ( actually, the red stripe TT's in the rear, fronts the same).
Both ride & handling greatly improved ..... and no banging coil bind in the OE ROW springs.
With the latter, there is more flexibility to set suspension height, at least on the upper side.

I just sourced Bilstein HDs from Carnewal to replace my factory M030 shocks which needed replacing. Make sure you get the HDs with the extra thread at the front, or you won't be able to get the lower ride height.
I asked Gert if I should go for H&R springs or keep my factory M030 springs and he said that the M030 springs are the perfect match for the HD shocks. He also explained that the M030 springs are higher quality than the H&R springs.
I've tried factory M033 springs with M033 shocks to replace my M030 shocks and springs and they are too soft for me, but then I don't use my 993 as a daily driver on our rough UK roads. The M033 springs are at the same ride height as M030 but are pretty much as soft as standard height springs.

Garth, I did not have any banging with H&Rs, but I think my suspension was set to ROW height. Strange though, that the spring would collapse tht much over regular pavement. Did you go with longer thread HDs? Are all new HDs longer thread (I read that somewhere a year or two ago)?
Cristel, since this is a daily driven car, I am seriously questioning whether M030 is the right sprig for it. What I have now is way too soft, but, of course, the shocks are probably dead and that contributes greatly to the pillow-like feel.
I would very much would like to actually find the spring rates fro assorted M03X springs and compare to H&R and Eibach directly. So far what I've seen out there, including Gert's site is description, no numbers. Plus Gert says that M033s are actually linear and M030 are progressive. That is unusual.

They do now. I had a set of front and rear Koni Sport adjustable dampers installed last month along with ROW M030 springs. Great combination for the horrible streets around here.

Greg, thanks! I'll try Paragon. Koni's site still says that rears are simply N/A for 993. Fronts, however, can be bought and bought much cheaper than Bilsteins.
Where did you get ROW M030 and what did it cost? How much was the car lowered with this combo? Any good picture from the side?
PS. Reading a bit more, I'm slightly confused. Are these SA or FSD Konis? I'm familiar with SAs, as I've had them on other cars. But what are FSDs and what's teh difference?

I just ordered a set of these, and M033's, from Paragon. I needed to replace the Monroe's in my car, and thought I'd convert to the European ride height at the same time. The FSD's get good reviews in the other forums, and my Porsche tech thinks they're fantastic.

A good compromise setup for a DD with some autocross/DE use and based on your parameters would be HD/M033 at ROW height with RS alignment specs and M030 or turbo sways. Very compliant over rough roads (the M030 is not so much) but tight enough for weekend-warrior work. Try finding someone local to you who has HDs and M033/M030. Best way to determine what is right for you.

OK, more confusion.
I've read the FSD description and it sounded like some schmuck is going to jump out of my TV and offer them to me for 3 payments of $19.99 plus shipping with second set free. non-descriptive fluff of the worst kind. This doesn't make them bad shocks, I was just shocked at the marketing BS (pun intended). So maybe sticking with SA is a better idea?
As far as adjustments, let's see. Will either SA or FSD allow a 20mm drop front and rear with, say, RoW M030 springs? If I read this correctly: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...uspension.html I will want to lower the front by 20mm and rear by... not sure. 20mm? 10mm? 30mm?
