Default Great Experience with McGard (makers of our wheel locks)

Just wanted to share my positive experience with McGard, the makers of our wheel locks. I lost my key last night and called them this morning. Spoke with Milton in customer service who was instrumental in finding the right replacement even though my car didn't come with the wheel lock code in the manual.

I took several photos of the locking nut and emailed them to Milton. Despite the poor quality of the images, he was able to find me a match and ship it to me all for under $30.

Later in the morning I found my key on the road about 3 miles from my house. I forgot to take it off when torquing the lug nuts last night and it traveled with me until it decided it didn't like PSS9 of full hard setting. Now that I think about it, some hard braking was involved in that location to to avoid a bunch of stupid geese, ABS kicked in, etc. After I got home I emailed Milton the photo of the key and he confirmed that they are sending me that exact key.

So if you only have one key and no code card, I suggest give McGard a call for a peace of mind.

I called mcgard last week and had to get replacement too. I sent them photos and for $25 I got a new key that fit. They told me the number for the lock (there is 32 possible keys for the 993). They can ship overnight or ground. Since they are in NY state, I opted for 2nd day delivery.

Thanks for the tip!

Now you have me wondering.

I have my McGuard key; not sure about the key code though. Might it be stamped on the actual socket. I'll check later.

Thee are 36 different sockets, numbered 001 to 036, these are the last 3 digits on the code card you get with the locks, there isnt anything on the sockets

Alex - Im sure they can tell you the code with a picture, but whats the point? If it ever ends up missing, they can tell you from the lug nut pattern. I guess it can help you in extreme situation where telling someone verbally the code to get a key out to you is the only option.

I forgot to mention that I ordered 2 keys and mcgard doesnt charge extra for shipping and gives you a discount on the 2nd key - $21.

Great customer service story for sure. I have to admit though that the wheel locks are the first thing I remove from any Porsche that happens my way.

+1...My wheel locks and socket are all in a sandwich bag and sitting in a box of "spare parts" taken off of various cars over the years...Just too much hassle for me.

Well I haven't even lost my key; I sent them a pic of it so that I can get a key number for a future order.

That was September 9th and I never even got a response from them.

Funny...I did the same thing and got the answer immediately. Call first, get the FAX number or e-mail address of the Customer Service person you talked to, then send the pic to them. For the key, there is a PORSCHE number and a corresponding McGard number. Get both.

I resent my e-mail along with the pic last night.

I just checked my e-mail and got a response with the key number.
