Default Engine Starting Problems

I am having starting problems. After my Sunday drive last week I stopped the car and it would not start. Later that night I pushed it into my drive way and it then started. I have started it everyday last week. Today I started it and it ran for a few minutes then it just quit. It will crank but not start. Tonight I tried again it started. The tank is full of premium gas. I did check and the DME relay is the 944 version probably the original fatory one. I am the third owner of this car.

Of course the DME is the number one suspect, but could it be the fuel pump or other sensor? I will change the DME relay any way after reading all of the coments but if it is not that I risk being stranded. If you hook up the diagnostics computer would it tell you what could be wrong? Any thoughts?

Buy the 993 part number DME relay not a 944 number. Start with replacing the DME it is lowest cost and it sounds as if this is the problem to me... Good luck.....

Just get a relay, worst case is you just got a spare, if it works, then get another for a spare!

I just tossed my DME and put a new one in to avoid getting stuck somewhere.

Thank you all for the good advice. I was going to replace the DME myself but I had called my regular car mechanic and he showed up this morning. Of course the car started, when you go to the doctor the pain is gone, and his diagnostic tool stated that the possible fault coud be the DME. I told him to buy two DMEs 993xxxxx part number from the Collection (Miami Porsche dealer) I did not want any aftermarket of this finicky part. The good news is that the car would not start just before he was going to install the part and he hooked up the computer and got a reading that the DME was bad and was intermittently opening circuit. He then installed the new one and I have a spare. He is fairly certain that that is what was wrong given the computer reading.

Thank you all I will keep you posted, now I have to prove that that was indeed the problem.

If you can plug your home computer into the wall outlet, you can change your own DME relay. Come on man.
