Nice. Oval's bring back memories of my buddies '57 in highschool. We were out one schoolnight cruising in the rain on an old backroad "smokin' the ganja" (codewords 'Taking an Apple Blossom Tour') ... what was I saying ...? Oh, yeah, anyways, came around a corner and slammed into a flood. Black, dirty water pushed up to mid-windshield before the car started to rise and float. We both pushed our doors open and jumped out, made our way to the front and pushed the car back until the engine was out of the water. Let it sit for a few minutes while we stood there thigh deep in lagoon water laughing ... Car started right up after a while and we got it backed out, turned around and headed back to town. Just cleared the blind corner when a 'Plum Crazy' Dodge Challenger 6 pack passed us going towards the water at about 80 mph ..... so, we stopped, got out and listened as the guy plowed into the flood. Turned around, and got there just in time to see his tailights disappearing under the water and him swimming back towards the road. We offer him a ride back to town to get a tow truck and when he steps into the car there's 3 inches of water rolling around on the floor and we all start laughing again ....

Love this thread!!
The only car I've ever owned that I wished I had never sold was my '66 Beetle. Black with red, crank sunroof. Drove it back and forh to UC Santa Barbara and all over western US. When I have crazy thoughts of selling my 993 I remind myself
not to add another car to the 'car sold regret' list.
We all have Beetle stories - thanks for the flood one. Mine is that my older brother borrowed my first Beetle once - a '62 and pretty beat up. He called me at home that evening and said, "Your car caught fire and the fire department came. It's parked at Mr Donut." Then he hung up on me. Had it running a couple of days later and left the scorch marks there on the engine lid.

A close friend and room mate for many years was (still) into VW's -- big time. He got me into them at 16 yrs old -- later, I got him into early 911's Payback, beatch
Anyhow, he collected many pre-60 type 1's -- including many Okrasa bits!! Judson superchargers galore! Roller bearing crankshafts etc. He had everything!! Way cool stuff!!
