So my drivers door handle will not unlatch the door 99% of the time. When the door is open and I manually close the latch it will pop it back open just fine.
I pulled the door panel and check it again and have the same issue.
Any ideas?

Hello,
The door handle is a small lever that pushes a tiny metal rod out of the handle perpendicular to the handle bar full stop.
So when you press the handle lever, the metal rod goes in the door and pushes a flat metal plate, that opens the door mechanism.
i.e: When you remove the door handle from the door, you press the lever and see the piston (metal rod) going out. As well, if door handle is unmounted, you put a finger in the door hole where the door handle mounts, and push the plate - the door opens.
When you close the door, the mechanism latch you for-mentioned hits the lock crochet on the pillar.
In this crochet, there is a plastic piece that tilts the latch for the door to lock.
FAT chance this plastic piece is cracked in the middle and your latch is not perfectly twisted when you close the door., so that the plate we spoke of above returns to its position fully.
so you press the lever, the piston goes out to push the plate, but the plate is retrieved, whilst latch did lock the door.
If plastic is good ( I doubt), the crochet needs adjustment
frequent after cold winter, I don't know why
