Default Anybody DIY drive shaft rubber boots? Need guidance

Greetings from 993tt and 964 forum. Looking for some help. If you know or have replaced the rubber bellows that hold the grease at the drive shafts (especially the front in the C4S) I could use your help

How does one slide in the rubber boot? Looks like I have to take off the cap at the end nearest the front differential. Does it just pry off??

thanks in advance

Here's a thread on REAR CV boot replacement that has plenty of other links:
https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...e-pack-of.html
Also, do a search here for: CV joint

I did all 4 rear boots when I was in there...You're in there and already greasy, so why not. A messy, but very cheap DIY. My inners came off w/o using a puller and the outers can be re-packed on the car. Pulling the outer hub nut is a PITA.

Sourced parts from EBS Racing (no affiliation).

Re-reading your post, I realize you are more interested in the front boots....hmmm, not much on search here. Try searching Pelican or the 964 board (if they are similar fronts, but I think they are not....might be useful info, however.) Also, you might look for thread on how people did the AWDectomy (removal of AWD) for pics of the front drive setup, which might help some.

Hi

i have done the rear boots on my 993, and it is a job I will be leaving it to a garage if it ever needs doing again. The guides mentioned above are really helpful. It's just a horrible job thats all.

I had to get it done before a track day and shelled out $1200+ for a dealer to do it. Figure up your labor on that one, Keith. I think I had a tie rod replaced that was included in that figure, though.

Thanks, guys. Does anybody know if the boots used on the 993 C4 are the same as the 964 C4 ( are they interchangeable)? Also, are the front drive boots same as rear drive boots?

There used to be PETs on www.paragon-products.com

The part numbers for the 993C4 are:

Front inner and rear outer and inner: 928.332.293.02

Front outer: 964.349.291.00

I ordered the inner and outer boots. Thank you

Meanwhile, anybody know how to take off the circlip at the outer CV joint? The inner ciclip was easy, but the outer circlip looks like it needs to be spread apart and held apart while at the same time sliding off the assembly off the shaft. Very hard to do.

Anybody know how or any tips?

I changed the outer front boots on my C4 964 and if I'm remembering correctly, you need a set of snap-ring-pliers to remove the clip.

Thanks. So, do you recall that indeed the snap ring has to be spread apart? How did you spread the snap ring and slid off the assembly with only two hands? How did you do it??

thanks in advance

Well, didn't take joint apart, and that's ok.

Here's another question if I may. All 993's have aluminum uprights. When screwing the front swaybar "C" bracket joint *into* the aluminum upright, should this iron thread be coated with something? I've read that copper anti seize should not be used on dissimilar metals due to corrosion. Not sure what to do here. should I just screw it in dry or put something on it??

thank you
