993 misfire, now won't start at all, any ideas much appreciated!

Guys, I am blown away by the help and advice offered, it really is appreciated. I got the car to my local specialist today and we swapped out the DME relay and it started fine...
To share the advice of the specialist, the 993 relays with a white base around the pins (which mine had) are generally more reliable than the older part with a brown base....still not infallible though! I really would urge any 993 owner to have a spare in the glove box.
regarding wiring loom recall, I have one logged in the service book, ID number 5106, I am waiting call back from Porsche dealer to tell me what that is as googling it did not come up with much.
thanks to all again
