Love the images!

Sorry, just relaying what I hear from a good friend who is an old-school clay modeler that started with Studebaker in the 50's, then Chrysler and GM and now works for Nissan Design in La Jolla, ca. He has told me that the brunt of their modeling/mock-up work is done on computer now and clay is being used less and less. His team, which used to number around 15 is down to 2.

This is true it is done a good bit less but I do not see it going away. Working up the ideas digitally is faster and cheaper than building physical models. But at the end of the day a physical model needs to be built. There is just less of them done for a given vehicle design because so much is pre-visualised digitally.

Most of you know more about it than I, but wasn't the 959 made in the late 80's, and doesn't it have a lot in common with the 993?

I continue to be surprised that the 993 was only sold (at least in the US) for four years. Why did they retire it so soon?

not an engineer, but likely quest to compete for power/modern engine management systems required moving to watercoolers. pumping all that oil around has got to be a bitch!!

my favourite....(not legal in the USA, but some have entered and been registered including i think one owned by bill gates) the 1989 959....very close semblance to the 993. very small block, 2.9L twin turbo....very fast (0-60 in the sub 3.5 range)

this one is for sale in tokyo for about US$ equivalent 400,000 with 18,000km. on the clock...click on any picture for detail
