Default Unboxing and assembly of my AC Hydraulic floorjack DK13HLQ - 993 approved!

Couldn't wait to get home today and unbox my new AC jack. I've wanted one for a long time and not until recently have they been sold in the US.
http://www.acjacks.com

104 pound package

Opening it up from the top

Cut the end open

Removed the packing at the end

Cut the saran-wrap off and start rolling it out

Remove the wood block

Install the handle on the leverage bar

Attach to base

Ta-da

Time to get my lift on

Talk about height

And of course, getting low and getting in far enough is the number one reason to get this jack

And finally, her resting area

Taking these pics I didn't but I primarily use a hockey puck. I know there is a rubber cushion that you can by for the jack but I wanted to see how things work with out it.

I have that one and love it; you should look for the Porsche insert for the pad.

One thing you may want to do before you lose them as I did. Roll one of the O rings off the wheel and take it to a hardware store to stock up on spares. They break.

This one?

How about jacking at the engine, what do you use there?

On their website it says the jack's capacity is 2900 lbs. I know that you're never jacking the whole car's weight up with the jack, but I don't think my car's anywhere near 2900. I guess I'm asking what is the minimum weight capacity of a jack that would be used on our cars?

Noobie question: did you chock/block the front wheels when you lifted the car? TIA

Any reason not to go for the DK20HLQ to get same reach and low profile, but more lifting capacity for the bigger trucks in the house?

After reading and checking specs, I went with the DK20Q (not hi lift, goes to 19”) and it is quality. Use it for the 993 and everything else.

Jacks are not exactly rocket science, but I’ve thrown away (or tried to rebuild) enough now to know some do this simple stuff better than others.
My expectation with the DK20 is that the quality is a little better to start with, but more importantly, when needed, I can easily and cheaply rebuild it.

Like:
- Mechanisms feel really solid.
- The release/lower action is via a lever system, not a screw action. I’ve had a few jacks fail due to the screw threads getting worn/damaged/pulled on the release mechanism, even after treating them carefully. I expect this system to be more robust.
- The release is also very easy to modulate when lowering with the jack loaded up.
- Handle is long and sturdy.
- Low profile for lowered cars.
- Company are hydraulic specialists, been around a long time.
- Rebuild kits easy to get. Instructions are good.
- Interestingly the $0.10 o-rings they put around each wheel actually make it feel much more quality (min $1.00ea lol) when rolling around...

Not so much like:
- Quick lift is via a separate pedal, I find it slightly awkward but maybe need more practice.
- Handle is long and one piece - can be tricky in tight spaces.
- Handle is secured to the jack with a bolt. I will be changing this to a quick release pin or something for speed and wear on threads.
- It ain’t pretty.

Hope this helps.
Cheers.
