Default Silver Crest for steering wheel

I'm going to install a new 340mm steering wheel and would like to install the Silver Crest. Can anyone steer me in the right direction to purchase. If it has to be purchased from Porsche a part number would be great. I'm new to Rennlist but love it. Thanks in advance for help.

Give Eric a call at www.bumperplugs.com. Great guy. Maybe he can help.

There is a very nice one, in classic gray and carbon fiber for sale here on Rennlist.

Are you looking for the crest only? I thought the silver crest for the airbag was a very difficult item to come by? If their is a source let me know as I would like one.

The airbag I bought for my 3 spoke wheel (got the wheel for only $50 from a 2004 GT3) came standard with a silver crest. I think I got it from Gert (carnewal.com).

Good luck,

Thanks for all the help, bumper plugs might be the answer thanks for sending noh20. I'll keep you guys posted on how it goes. Also I just installed the Bilstien PSS10's and the RS strut brace. I can't tell you how good this suspension set is. You can go from a very compliant cushy for 911 standards set up to what for most of us would consider a really good track set up. I will post a thread with some pictures of my car. I think i have it set up between RS & ROW. Went from SUV to sucked to the road LOVE IT.

I got a blown airbag from eBay and removed the silver crest from it. I then used a hot glue gun to put it on the Atiwe wheel's airbag. I would check with one of the know Porsche junkyards and see if they will sell you a blown airbag. Be interesting if the airbag blows where the crest will end up. Perhaps embedded in my forehead!

Here is a photo of the wheel and crest when I had it installed in my cab. I have since moved it into the turbo.

Chuck thanks for your reply, I'm going to try bumper plugs that noh2o suggested. I need to plug the two holes up front anyway. Your wheel looks great, I'm going with the FVD 340MM Freeway model. From what i understand all of these wheels are similar Atiwe, FVD, Ruf etc. Did you order your Silver Hood Crest from Porsche or were able to find a vendor? By the way your garage and car are top end.

My crest came from a deployed airbag. Thanks, re the garage. I do enjoy it! I am not wild about the looks of the aftermarket 340mm wheels, but the feel is the best thing going.

The bumper plug site only has the hood crest. Oh well I'll keep looking.

Vertex sells a silver crest badge that has a mounting stud that needs to be cut off, then adhered to your wheel.

Could not find it at Vertex website. Please post a link. If its a hood badge isn't that too big for the air bag?

Here is the closest I found at Vertex:

http://www.vertexauto.com/ShowItem/2...e%20Crest.aspx

What do you guys think about this idea? I could purchase this one and then send it to that outfit that converts gold hood badges to silver and have them do them same thing to this steering wheel badge.

Hey Harlan,
Looks interesting but not sure from the picture on their site if it has a slight 'gold' tint to it or if it's just a bad picture. Have you seen one in person? Has anyone tried to pry a color badge off an airbag? I wonder how hard it would be (or dangerous if you pry'd a little too hard ...)

JP, I haven't seen the Vertex badge in person but noticed that they sell the badge for quite a bit less than Automotion.

Some months ago, I picked up a silver crest on ebay: a very quality piece, with a peel off adhesive back, so installation on my wheel was a breeze. Appears to have been an OE part, but cannot confirm - also checked the old ebay listing, but it is long gone .... so search ebay G/L
