Default PPI Results...What do you think?

I have to start by saying that the information available on this site is just AMAZING. I've been a member for a while now and I am finally ready to make a purchase. I recently did a PPI on a potential canidate and wanted to know what you think of the compression and leak down results.

The car is a 96 C4S with 30,000 miles. Not sure of the service history.

Compression: 1-170 2-170 3-183 4-175 5-180 6-170
Leak down: 1-5% 2-4% 3-3% 4-4% 5-5% 6-2%

According to the shop that performed the PPI, the compression was good and the leak down was great.

Overall, the car needs some TLC($7-8K) to bring it up to par with some of the cars owned by Rennlist members.

The car is selling for 43K. I had the same thoughts as far as the car being potentially neglected.
Some of the problems: 30K maintenance, brakes, ignition wires, valve covers, power steering cams, new tires (currently 8yr old PZeros), 2 wheels slightly bent(car shimmies slightly), front steering boot is ripped, air deflector in wing is cracked, front and rear hood shocks, brake ducts are broken, belly pans are cracked and broken, wipers.

P.S. I am now a member!

So what do you think?

What should I be willing to pay for a car in this shape?

Mo-Town:

1. We need more information. Miles, year, model, mods, service history, etc.

2. You're technically not a member until you've paid up!

3. Photos will help, plus a location.

Hope it works out!

Paul.

What Paul said, plus how much are you paying? Adding 7 to 8K is fine if your getting a great deal. Also, it bothers me that you have to put that much in TLC into the 993. That's a lot and tells me the PO may not have taken care of the car. Good luck and keep us posted.

Mo-town: ALL good questions. Answer them fully and you'll get great help from these folks. AND I agree, pay up and play--it's the best deal going.

Hey guys,

I edited the post to add the extra info.

Get a second opinion on the PPI unless you totally trust the guy doing it.

The car does not sound like it's been well loved, and the asking price is way high. If it were me I'd move on...

Wheels bent, belly pans ripped...sounds like there might be a story there. I would keep looking.

Pass. There are a lot of fine 993s out there for sale. This is not one of them.

The compression and leakdown numbers look good, but as others noted, there are way too many other things here and the price is WAY too high.
