Default Factory Short Shift - Option code 241

Hi all,
Anyone out there have this code or verified exactly what it means?

I've just been talking to Erik (rsr91128) about it. I have it listed on my car's hood sticker and so does he (both '95 cars). It decodes using the rennlist decoder and Streather's companion book as "Shorter Shifting Gear Travel".

Erik's COA doesn't mention short shift for his car and he said that his shifter didn't have any RS short shift parts on it.

I've never driven any other 993's except my current car, but my shifter travel is short and the gates are quite precise, so I've assumed it's factory short shift. When I was at FD Motorsports last November, I sat in Darin's car and the shifter throw felt the same as mine although the gates felt more precise and mechanical to me.

Is a factory short shifter just RS parts used to shorten the throw of the shifter or is there more to it? How would one verify that they have a factory short shift kit installed?

TIA
JP

JP, if you don't mind I copied this from one of the emails I sent.

In response to a question about my COA vs Option codes on the stickers.

The COA says:
Optional Equipment:
17" pressure cast wheels
full power seat-left
hifi sound package w/ speakers (should say 10 speakers but it's just one of many typo's)
us standard emissions
Porsche floor mats-black
Conti Tires

So that is 6 options? My stickers show 9 options.

My option sticker says:
CO2- us emissions
241- ???? short shift???
331- AM/FM Cassette with door speakers
358- ????
437- Full power seat left
454- Cruise Control
490- Hi Fi sound system
650- Sunroof
718- Factory REVIN 94 ROW to 95 USA

So I don't know what the other codes mean, I know at one time the car had a Porsche CD changer (factory or dealer install I don't know) and there were remains of a phone system in the car (no idea if it was factory but I don't think so).

Can anyone help with codes 241 and 358???????????????

Thanks

My question is:

I took my shift rod out to have it "GOLDENIZED" and all of my shifter parts appear to be standard parts per the PET. It sure doesn't feel like a short travel and it isn't referenced on the COA, and I have never seen this on any of the other original window stickers that have been posted online so I don't know if this was really an option or not?

Thanks

My car also has the 241 option. I was also wondering if this was rare. It appears as though maybe it is a 1995 thing.

Is your shift travel fairly short? I've never compared mine to other 'stock' cars have you?

JP, yes, the short shift option is the RS lever and fork. Pretty sure that does not include the RS shift Rod.
See my next post, hopefully this clarifies a bit.

Hey Erik,

The RS shift lever and fork look very similar to the standard shift parts. Unless you have them side by side it is hard to tell.
The easy way to tell is to take a look at the shift box bushing position in the shift box. If the tube (#27) is sitting at the upmost position, the RS lever and fork are installed.

Shift box bushings are #26
RS Shift Rod is #12

Mark is there any chance you could measure one of your RS levers sometime. Preferably the small lower yoke and I will compare it with my car's parts when I reinstall my shift rod.

Thanks,

EDIT: Mark, I guess I was posting at the same time as you. I can't look at my shift rod right now it's in California, but it was a sloppy rubber mounted rod. I'll check the bushing tonight.

Thanks

It's pretty easy to tell whether its an RS lever and yoke one it's out.

Geoffrey posted some comparison pics here

there are also 2 different lever heights, I've had a short and a tall RS lever in my car

Bill, Thanks for the link.

Sorry JP judging by the pictures I took and the one's in the link I think option 241 on my car doesn't mean short shift.

Yoke looks like the short standard type.

Bushing in lower position (good thing I ordered some Xenit with my shift rod)

Guess I have to keep wondering what 241 means?

Thanks for your help guys.

Yes, this is very perplexing. It seems unlikely that the code 241 means something else as that code is probably used through several if not all 911 models with that option. I'm up in Seattle away from my car for the next few months, but I'll check it out when I'm back down in NorCal and see what I've got. It's possible your hood sticker is misprinted. If I don't have RS parts, then it's possible that several hood stickers were misprinted in a row. What month/year was your car produced? Mine is a November '94 car ...

bingo JP... I can't prove it yet, but I think 241 meant something different on 1995 MY cars... searching a bit, the same option comes up often on 1995 993s.
