That's a whole 'nother ball of wax at 75 actual miles. A true time capsule... 128,175.976 US$, lemme check my bank balance.

As dealers say: "there's an *** for every seat." That may well be someone's dream car that they have been searching for forever. The strategy is always to see if that person is out there first...It's easy to drop the price, much harder to raise it...

Either most 993s are overpriced or that magazine is way out to lunch...one of the two.
Then, have a look at the six figure plain 'ole 993 coupes in Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan etc.

Sorry, this may be off the beaten path of this thread. I will go on to say knowing Martin like I do, he simply was just throwing out the word that a 993 he saw near him was available and a nice example at that.

Looking at Autotrader there are 26 dealer '95s with less than 60K miles, unfortunately I can't limit the bottom end of the mileage range, so this is going to be skewed high since some of the cars are very low-mile...

Highest Price: $49,900
Lowest Price: $29,988
Average Price: $36,294

Surprisingly, the asking on that car isn't too far off from the average. But then again, if the numbers do skew high, then it is priced $5-6-7K too high which is a significant percentage.

Notes; I included Cabs and Tips and C4's in the search to get a broader sample. Victory is selling a good number of the cars in the list.

It comes from the same place as "no dicker sticker".

Kind of unimportant. A pair of Nikes cost $2.50 to make yet people pay well over $100 for a pair. If an owner won a Carrera GT should they only be allowed to sell it for $10?

Its worth what someone is willing to pay.

Absolutely love the art of the deal, it's a hoot isn't it! Negotiated hard, the purchase of my wife's new car this year. We were actually gonna trade her old car in, dealer low balled the trade, but naturally had the best price on the new car. They had to do a dealer trade for the exact car we wanted, and while we were negotiating additional monies for the trade...the dealer who had the vehicle, sold it. Now the next closest exact optioned/color car we wanted was 400 miles away, instead of 50. That dealer refused to do an out of state trade, long story on how I found that out.

All I wanted was a measly 5% above average trade in, for a mint condition highly desireable trade. We were arguing over nothing really. Push came to shove, the dealer blinked. Now he has to go 300 miles away, to get a car with additional options(at no additional cost to us), as well as throwing in an additional $300 of accessories to make the deal.

Anyway, 6 weeks of banter later, and we take delivery of what the sales manager said was one of the hardest sales he can remember.

Sales should be simple, here's the old car-your gonna make good money on it, so pay me a fair value for it. There's the new, we all now know what dealer invoice is-here's a fair price for it. Lets make a deal.

I look forward to walking into a new car dealer where I don't know more about the model, the options, and the incentives, than the moron trying to sell it to me.

Some the best part of test driving a new vehicle, is watching to see how hard you can get the salesman to grab the handles in a panic.

I really don't understand the angst here WRT the stated sticker. It's a Dealership, no? Who doesn't know how dealership sales floor works? Put up a price on the higher end, and drop it only if you need to. What's the big deal ...it's not like this is the first time any of us has ever seen this before? Or were some of you guys expecting them to give you their cost+10 best-friend deal? Sheesh.

I won't comment on the car itself, not having seen it, but 50K miles is very much considered on the "low side" given it is a 1995 ...not "garage queen" but definitely on the low side for even this "type" of car (one that is not a Camry).

I agree for the most part... However most people do weigh in their cost as a factor when trying to sell something. After all the purpose of retail sales is to profit, not to take a loss. I was just stating that obviously cost was an unknown factor. After all if someone's cost on a new pair of Nike's was $100 and they decided to sell them I'm sure they would not sell them to someone for $25 even if that's what the 50 people who looked at them was willing to pay and nobody was willing to pay more. It would suggest the person who paid $100 for them that is trying to sell them probably shouldn't have. I agree with your Carrera GT example above, however that is the extreme exception not the norm. I mention cost because the dealer obviously purchased the car in a "used" condition and has a real cost associated to it's retail resale. The Carrera GT example their is no cost to the seller. Of course it would be wise to try to sell at near what the "going rate" for that car is. But if he sold it for half that price he would still profit.

As you mentioned. How greedy we are will determine how much we will try to get for something...that and what is also available from the competition.

If everybody had a mint 993 with under 10K miles and was asking X price, then that would be the going price...all that would matter is color and options choice.

And if I didn't want to retire early, I'd pay some of the asking prices for those hard-to-find, very-few-of-in-that-condition cars.

I once sold a mint low mileage BMW. The buyer said but I can get the other one for $8K less. So I told him, go and buy it. But I want yours, he said. Well I guess you'll just have to pay the price. Why would I price my car as if it were a daily driver? In the end, a friend bought it. Ten years later, he still has it.
