Ditto... A Georgia State Patrol recently gave me a $70...something traffic ticket for not changing lanes while passing the cruiser which was parked on the shoulder of the hwy. There seems to be a law in Georgia about this practice. (“Ignorance is bliss” is a defense right?) My daily driver is a nondescript (at best) late model VW Jetta sedan TDI turbo diesel, childs booster seat and all. There was moderate to heavy 7am traffic that morning so changing lanes and giving the cop a larger margin of safety wasn’t an option. At the end of the day my read was the stop turned into a revenue opportunity. Out of state DL, out of state vehicle Reg and a unique state law and new resident…. Book’em Dan-O that I’ll be $70.00 A new state resident could have easily been given a mulligan given the cirrcumstances.

If you're from out of state (with plates, license, etc.) and you get pulled over for a unique state law, then you should not get ticketed. Even if you just moved there (although if you haven't switched over within Georgia's legal time frame, then that's another story and you broke another law )

No cop can give you a ticket if you are licensed out of state for a non-posted law that doesn't exist in your state, that's bs. You took an exam in your state for specific rules of that state. Now, if there are posted signs all over Georgia telling motorists they have to move over one lane for a cop, then that's a different story.

Fight the ticket, you should easily win, imho.

p.s., (since we were talking about tint) a car from, say, Nevada, with dark tint on the windows will not get pulled over here in CA.

In TN I believe it's called the "Move Over" law. IINM it can result in a $500 fine. Not saying it was appropriate in your circumstances though. There were a couple of troopers that were hit during traffic stops that initiated this law. The videos of them being struck (from their dashboard cams) were amazing. I bet if you asked Chuck W he would agree with this law.

I've had my car for over 5 years and never have had any tickets for tint, or front plate, until this year. Methinks there will be more enforcement of ticky-tack stuff like this, as it's easy money for the city.

Actually, they target no-front-plate for red light camera and radar camera enforcement, which does not work if you do not have a front plate.

The tint was an add-on I suspect since he was already pulling you over for the no-left-turn-signal. But the cops are keenly aware of illegal tinting because it is an officer safety issue when they approach the driver (can't see your hands..).

Anyway, the no-front-plate is a fix it ticket, one I "fix" with two zip ties and a trip to the local police station. I don't take the plate off immediately after they sign off on the ticket; I usually just wait until I get home. None of my cars run front plates. The ten dollar fix-it ticket is just the cost of doing so...

Well, down here in L.A., the LAPD will pull you over and cite you for not having the plate now. Also, parking enforcement will give you $25 parking tickets all day long for not having a front plate if you park in a public place.

I did the zip-tie on/off trick for a while. But LAPD and L.A. parking enforcement have ramped up their enforcement to such a degree that I was getting the $25 ticket almost every time I parked at a meter. After I got pulled over ONLY for not having the front plate, I decided to add my plate. I don't wanna be a target. When the 993 stops being my daily driver, I'll take it off for good.

Yes, officers are keenly aware of tint, especially now that they've waged war on drivers to generate more revenue. It is an officer safety issue, yet I was never cited for it before, even thought I've had the tint for the 5 years I've owned the car. Methinks the officer was more interested in a shake-down than his safety as my windows were down when he pulled me over.

My only concern is what does the metallic tint do to affect the radar detector?
I have a V1 mounted above my mirror, and it picks up radar and laser from behind and the sides with no problem. If there is any effect, it does not seem significant. As I drive, the transition from front to side to rear makes logical sense, so I don't think the tint is reducing much if any signal.

I got pulled over and was given a ticket two days ago for having tint on my windows. The cop also wrote me up for not having my left turn blinker on while making a left hand turn, even though I was in a dedicated left hand turn lane. I think I can beat it in court, as I don't think it's illegal not to have your turn blinker on if you're in a dedicated turning lane.

My wife got a ticket for the tint on her Prius last month from CHP, ON HER BIRTHDAY! Then he had the nerve to ask her out.

So you're thinking rain water is a spot free rinse? I wish it was. At least here in CO it picks up dirt and whatever in the air and makes nice dirty rain spots

I got pulled over for window tint on my soccer mom-mobile ('02 540 wagon). PULLED OVER for tint, not just in addition to speeding or being drunk or something. I couldn't believe it. Fix it ticket was $25, and to have the cop sign off on it at the court house was $35, not to mention the $15 to take it to the tint place to strip off the tint. The commute cost me $75 that morning. Sucks.

I've also gotten pulled over for no front plate. Yes, pulled over for no front plate. Again, $25, then get the cop to sign off on it. Now I'm a sucker with a front plate and no tint. Oh well, saves me the hassle of forking over dough to Johnny Law again. FWIW, I guess the CHP will sign off on the tickets for free, but LAPD will charge you $35.

For what it's worth, the cop that pulled me over said that I could either remove the tint, or just pay the fine and keep the tint. I was incredulous. I said to the cop, "Lemme get this straight. Even though my tint is illegal, they'll let me keep it, provided I pay the fine?!?" Yup, he said.

That was all I needed to hear. They don't care if it's illegal, they just want the money. They'll let you keep it because they hope to pull you over and get more money from you the next time.

I guess in this relationship, I'm the john, the cop is the prostitute and the legal system is the madam...

Too late now, but tint is really easy to remove, just use a razor to pull up a corner, then just pull. Use Windex to remove all the glue. a little messy, but on a DIY complexity scale of 1-10 it is a 1, even I was able to do it.

I hear ya, but this tint was down below the rubber seal on the inside of the door. I was afraid I wouldn't get all the glue off and the seal would become sticky and forever drag on the window. For $15 I just let someone else deal with it. Next time I'm driving it to your house.

You're right. In theory it should work but practice rarely matches theory, as Yogi Berra so deftly pointed out.

I've yet to find a shortcut method for avoiding spots which actually works. The only way to get a car to look as good as the OP's is through a lot of effort, albeit a labor of love.

Back to the orig post: looks great!! ...but did you see the forecast for tomorrow??

BTW, I just love seeing the MY02 wheels on 993s. It is the "perfect" wheel, IMHO. Just so clean, yet so sexy! One day...

As a SoCal resident, I have been nabbed twice so far for no front plate, both times parked ...once from the family Odyssey fer cryin out loud! I can't believe they're actually pulling your over now ...sheesh!! Since I live in an LA suburb, I have been lucky to avoid the most ardent ticketers who likely cruise in the city proper ...so far anyway. Man I hate this junk!
