Default my head unit is dead, I think

Hi all,
While trying to bring my car out of storage, I put the battery back on. Naturally, the head unit was requesting for the security code. I, in my usual clumsiness, screwed up the code. Now the it doesn't want to wake up ever(even if I try to re-enter the code). It's a CR-1 cassete deck that came with late '95 993's.
Not that I mind (I like the sound of the engine better) but the mrs. wants to drive the car too and play all her japanese pop music on it.
Have I permanently killed my stereo? How do I get this thing to accept the security code and start working?

Thanks guys!
-Joe

Did you try disconnecting the battery and starting over?

Doesn't disconnecting the battery again reset it, then you sould be able to reconnect the battery and the unit will ask for the code again.

There's also a timer in the unit, don't know what the times are for your unit but leave it alone for 30 - 60 min and you should be good to try again.

Thanks for the quick responses!
I did try that, and upon reconnecting the battery, it still remained dead.
Any other options?

Did you check the fuse?

Yes, fuse is fine. Power is coming to the unit. It really looks like when I messed up the code, it just went into some kind of locked state. Now I can't enter the correct code once I unhook and rehook the battery.
Can't find anything about it on the 993 manual

I believe you need to leave the unit powered up (ignition on) for 60 minutes before you try again with the code.

My radio manual says:
If you have entered an incorrect code, the word CODE reappears in the display. The system allows two more attempts for a total of three. After three incorrect attempts, WAIT is displayed. A ten minute time interval must elapse before you can attempt the coding process. You then have three more chances to enter the proper code. After nine attempts at code entry, and three waiting periods of ten minutes each, the radio will WAIT for sixty minutes. After 60 minutes, you will have three more chances for code entry. Should you fail at his point, WAIT will appear, and sixty minutes must pass before you can make another attempt. The radio must be on during the waiting period.

Sounds like you are seeing no WAIT symbol, which could mean an internal problem.

The radio must be on during the waiting period.
That's the important part. The clock only runs when the power is on. I also agree if you aren't seeing the wait code then you probably have bigger problems. Regardless give it another try anyway after you've been driving around a bit.

Ah good point. I never gave the thing's clock the chance to have enough time elapsed.
I shall try it tonight.
Thanks!

Joe, I just bought a used CDR210 from Bill W (it arrived today, Bill thanks!) so if you can't get yours working I can send you mine if you're wanting replace the same unit (CR1)

I don't know what they are worth, but we'll figure something out. Maybe shipping costs and some beers or something(?) I have the code card, etc..

Thanks Canyon!
Good to hear there are options. I'll keep it in mind while I try to resuscitate the head unit again tonight.
