And what had the tax bill risen to from, say, 1973 to 1978? Own a home then? Have a fearful grandmother needing her kids to kick in to pay the bill on a nice home, and eventually having to sell and spend her remaining years in a one bedroom apartment? Have your own parents remain in the crappy urban, somewhat undesirable neighborhood based not on affordability of the suburbs, but on what Jerry Brown and his minions down the line in state and local government would probably continue to do with property taxes?

In our subdivision there is a road that is three miles long that we have to take to get down to where the homes are. We even have cops hiding in the bushes along this road with radar guns to catch menopausal women in their prius' doing when they are in a hurry to get home to go pee. It's unreal. They have us all so paranoid that many folks drive 15mph UNDER the speed limit to play it safe.
Yeah, and it looks like Az. is home to the companies that states outsource a lot of these "services" to.

I got a nice "red light" camera ticket in Capitola recently.
Got to see a video of my little Mini NOT coming to a complete stop to turn right. Was turning into the Capitola Mall.

Apparently a well known revenue stream for Capitola. Now I know.
It angers me greatly.

FWIW, a very safe turn. No one in any intersection, blah blah blah. Turning into the main parking lot entrance.

Going to cost me about $650.
How is THAT justified?

They just installed several red-light cameras in the town I'm closest too. I've gotten 3 "warnings" from 1 intersection, for making a right on red with apparently not coming to a complete stop first. As of last week they will now be tickets and not warnings. I understand the reason for red-light cameras, Ive seen far too many run blatant reds when mine was green but come on, right on red without a complete stop is not the same thing.

The other town near us apparently has dibs on a 5 mi. section of 4 lane divided roadway with nothing but a couple of large shipping depots on it. The road is a good 8 mi. out of town but they almost always have 2 cops patrolling that road (50 mi. speed limit, absurd!).

How the mighty have fallen.

A country that once put a man on the moon has reduced itself to stealing nickels from it's citizens to make up for it's inability to live within it's means.

Pathetic.

....
Yessir ...and a superb way of phrasing it. Not only succint, but accurate!

And as I alluded to earlier, the only ones more reprehensible than the powerbrokers for sliding down this most insidious slope are the voters who a) put them there and b) won't stand up and voice their opposition.

This entire thread is wildly OT, but it is nice to see that we can stay focused on "this topic" and not get personal ...despite the fact that the liberal/socialist agenda is destroying CA and the nation at large.

...go for a spirited drive, anyone? ...oh wait, even that is being regulated, I forgot

Spread the wealth, Edward.

The liberals suck in their own way, but remember, the conservatives abandoned their ideal of small government and fiscal responsibility when they recently presided over the largest expansion of government in our history; not to mention the cost of two failed and unnecessary wars...

Well I won't delve into yet another topic such as Iraq and Afgan ...another issue to be discussed at another OT venue

But believe me when I say I have no love for the failure of so-called "conservatives" (RINO's) who have not acted fiscally conservative. One party has no monopoly on failed ideas, to be sure.

$650 for turning right on red?? Are you serious? This is why the issue has been taken out of patrolmen's hands to write a citation at their discretion. I know of very, very few cops that could write a citation to an average citizen for such an outrageous amount. You can't even get the courts to fine criminals that kind of money. The guise of safety is laughable and I don't see how they can keep a straight face when saying the intersections are now MUCH safer.

Everyone wants great schools, yes, but "paying for" good public education is not what CA is doing ...this I know for a fact being in educ for a couple of decades now. Ca is spending, to be sure, but they're not "buying" good education.

"Public services" ...yes, but which services and whom do they serve? These are questions that need to be asked and addressed. The answer was, is not, nor will ever be raise more money to throw at problem. Nor should the home owner be asked to foot an even greater part of the bill ...last time I checked, working hard to earn your own home should not come with a penalty of add'l taxes just because you are a home owner. I suppose we'll just agree to disagree here.

I wish I were kidding.
And this isn't even a "regular" old intersection. It is the entrance to a mall parking lot. With a solid, landscaped divider

I could beg and plead for a reduction in the fine but I then lose the ability to attend traffic school and avoid the long term insurance pain ($$).
I am definitely guilty but the fine is rather extravagant.

No affiliation, but using google I just found something exaclty like what I was referring to in my earlier post:
http://www.pashnit.com/product/cheetah_gps_mirror.html
http://www.speedtraphunter.net/cheet...ps-mirror.html
It also integrates with Valentine One (if you have one) to auto mute your Valentine if your pace is already below the speed limit.

Washington State, like California, is slowing turing into a Socialist Republic, so I might get this to stay one step ahead of the dictators.

I am also against prop 13! Let everybody pay taxes on what their house is worth today (i.e. 10 times more than in 1988!)
If you can't afford to keep your house: too bad! Welcome to the real world!
