Okay, n00b question: what does IMS stand for? I'm seeing lots on the RMS -- rear main seal? -- but I can't find the term IMS broken out.

So the 993 crowd generally keep the radio off to hear the mechanical music while 996 owners need to keep the radio off to listen for the clink/clunk of shrapnel.

Porsche should be ashamed and have to pay for this. It makes me mad every time I read one of these threads. How did they get away with this?

Ouch, but apparently somewhat true.

Wifeys 2003 Boxster was on its third engine by 14k miles due to this.

I take clogged SAI passages any day over the unreliability of the self granading 996 engine. What a mess!

^^ In certain circles, this comment would be known as a "SNAP!" ^^

That as great info. Hope everyone noticed that was done by Charles Navaro and Jake Raby, the LN Engineering guys. They post here occasionally (esp on oil threads).

Yeah, I should clarify that my comment should have been better directed at the factory and not 996 owners. I wouldn't wish that sort of drama and heartache on anyone.

It's sad to see Porsche making disposable cars. There are certain brands of car that I would only keep with an intact warranty, and once that warranty is up -- it's sold. It's sad to have to add Porsche to that pile.

But it does make me appreciate what I have all the more.

That's why I own a 996 turbo - completely different engine then the NA 996. I feel for this guy for sure.
