Cuctus, you kind of look like Morrissey in that photo.

I was just so excited to get that SAI gone.

Cactus, wonderful picture. The SAI is a bear to get out of there.

Joe, educate me on the cruise control delete.
I removed my heat and cruise control that was attached to the heater blower many years ago.
However, I did notice that cruise control "lump" sitting ontop of the engine.
Any specifics on removal?

Thanks Kevin
Hi Kevin,

The cruise control actuator is located under the manifold (adjacent to the SAI pump). To remove simply unbolt and disconnect the linkage to the throttle body and the electrical connector at the zinc plated "tree" on the driver's side of the engine (it's the big round connector on the bottom).

Here's a pic of the "tree" and the cc actuator.

Hope this helps,
Joe

Cactus:

Your squirrel lives about an hour west of here. But he's having a long sleep right now...

Just a counterpoint.

+1. For a street car, I'd never get rid of a factory cruise control. I don't drive hammer and tongs on the road 100% of the time.

Nice. The SAI equipment removal is on my todo list now since I passed California smog today without the SAI connected using the emulation circuit. I've order plugs so I can remove all the plumbing.

I guess there's no way to legally remove the SAI on the OBD2 cars?

You can remove it, but your reward will be an illuminated check engine light. Unfortunately, this will generally result in a fail at smog test time.

We believe it can be done, sort of in the same vein as as the great Yeti, Nessie, and Unicorns.

Have not heard of anyone ever definitively doing it though. Not legal to muck around with it, so perhaps it can be done, but the doer(s) want a low profile?

Who knows...

You can build a circuit to feed the voltages to the ECU that it is expecting to avoid CEL with the SAL equipment removed.

Andreas, yes I did get the plugs from Patrick Motorsport. Great service. Also, great write up on the SAI removal.

Joe, thanks for the pictures on the cruise control.

Did any of you guys recieve grief from your wife? In a playful way Stephanie said "What are you removing? Doesn't your call need that?"
I even think there was a eye roll involved.

Every time I touch the car my wife says, "do you need to do that", "Does it make it any faster?"

My Response everytime, "I am trying to make it safer......." Gets her everytime.

um... yeah, I got many questions when I took this stuff out

Interesting conversation that ended with my wife saying "Well, it sure looks important"
