+1. That looks like a pretty decent car. If it needs paint, keep it the same colour.

Dude, I wanted a Venetian Blue 88 911 and finally found one 11 years ago. I adored that color and the car itself. It's a slate grey metallic color and I thought it was the prettiest color I'd seen - blue interior like yours.

Why oh why would you repaint it? Is the paint completely messed up on it? I don't get it. Plus, it would cost an absolute fortune to do it "right" and you won't get any of that money back when you sell it. In fact, you may lose money for doing it.

Congrats on your lovely blue car! Now forget about the color and go out and drive it. Here's the day I sold mine. I cried...

Its a very solid car with full history and a pretty clean interior, however I'd be kind if I said it "cosmetically challenged".. the paint is completely shot!

Like I said in a previous post in Europe(where I am) its about body condition = rot, color is secondary. I'm fortunate having a workshop that has a paint shop, a trimmer, a glass fiber shop and F Ford race builder all with in 100 yards.

PS - Its Marine Blue

My first 911 was a 911SC Targa in Pacific Blue with Linen interior. Absolutely loved that color.

Another vote for the 3.2 w/G50 setup. I loved mine...

That said, I prefer my 993- but that wasn't on the list!

Both the 996 and the 986 will run circles around a G50 coupe. Even the 993 3.6L makes the 3.2L seem anemic... so I expect you will be left wanting more power immediately.

That said, I'd take the 88, anyway, personally. No worries about RMS/IMS failure and, despite the lack of power, they are truly great cars.

If I was working from a clean slate, I'd go even earlier. I actually found the 2.7L cars to be more fun. Lighter, more nimble and, despite numbers proving otherwise, that engine always "felt" more eager to me.

Your money at the end of the day; get what gives you the biggest grin.

EDIT: As a caveat, and echoing the thoughts of others (with consideration given to the ridiculous premium for G50 3.2L's these days), I would also not rule out a 964.

Collected it today as it somewhat frozen in over the last few days(-14C) and it drives remarkably well, I'd forgotten how engaging these 911's are

Its now in my shop being stripped down for a repaint and re trim the mechanicals are faultless just needs new tires. Should be ready March for shake down then off to Le Mans Classic 9th - 11 July

then why are you considering a 3.2. Great car, but a dinosaur, even with a G50, compared to a 993.

I went from a 3.2 to a 993 and back to a 3.2. The 993 may be the "better" 911...that great 3.6 engine, six speed tranny, a relatively modern HVAC system and a more contemporary look.

however...

I bought my first Porsche 38 years ago. I've owned or driven pretty much every street Porsche except a 944. With the exception of my 996 (ugh), they were all great cars. But in my not-so-humble opinion, the most appealing, bulletproof, involving, reasonably affordable street 911 out there is the G50 3.2 Carrera.

Admittedly I'm an old school semi-purist. And I am definitely a coupe guy; I don't care for cabriolets at all. But a few months ago this 32K mile M491 cab found me and strangely, I couldn't be happier. Maybe old age is affecting my judgment.

I also like it better after recently replacing the chrome Fuchs with the proper bling-free versions.
