Cat bypass on a '95

Post Cat bypass on a '95

Tried a search a search, and now I am more confused. Will bypass trigger a CEL on a 95 or not? If it does, how to get rid of it?

No CEL from a cat bypass on a '95. The reason is that OBD1 used on all 993 thru '95 doesn't monitor past cat gasses. OBD2 used from '96 on US 993 and all 993tt monitors both pre and post cat gas, and will throw a CEL if the post cat gas is not within spec.

Hmmm, anyone got a pic of said bypass pipe? A pic of one installed, even better? I assume this is an easy bolt on/off procedure??

here Chris, let me offer one up before you get wind of this thread and chime in ;-)

No CEL, I pulled the cat and replaced with DACH X-pipe (no cats, Chris makes them with cats) and modified mufflers (DACH-R, probably similar to the other modified OEM muffler variants around)...

Best modification I have done to the car by far, sound is glorious, and the old-school (cut his teeth on air cooled cars) tech at the local Porsche place says mine is the best non-racecar 993 he's ever heard.

you got here first, I'll give you that

Both Dave and I have been so busy with our other business, pipes could only be slightly further out from the front of our respective burners its not funny. This is the first time in a Loooooooooong time we haven't had any pipes to build. The lack of pressure has been nice. Hell my car has been on my lift for 2 months waiting for me to finish the front wheel bearings.....just no time or energy left for anything lately.

I do however, happen to have a new set of that exact set on the shelf and ready to move if anyone is looking for a set (can ship immediately). Contact me via PM here or through our site dachperformancesystems.mysite.com

I have recently fitted a dach cat byepass, more top end power and the noise is great. One annoying problem is the car now backfires shifting up at over 3000 rpm. More fuel getting into the exhuast the higher the revs I'm thinking which would have previously been blocked by the cat. Anybody else got this please ??? its so annoying I'm thinking of putting the cat back on. I have standard mufflers and have checked for air ingress.

Hey Twinreds,
I think you live not too far from me. We should meet up and you can hear mine. I have a 95 with a gutted cat. Personally I think you could approximate the sound with aftermarket mufflers and I don't think it provided much more power, if any (although throttle response feels better). The major downside is that a car running closed loop literally stinks.

I'll PM you my cell, maybe we could meet over the next weekend or two.

You have an idea how many decibels you have?

I'm asking because at this moment I have a cat bypass with a motorsound package (3.8 engine) but I would like to change the motorsound with Fister III's.

I'm afraid it's going to be too loud?

Hi delanobe: I have standard headers & mufflers and the dach bypass. I have changed the o2 sensor thinking it may be the culprit to no effect. Interesting that other owners get no backfiring...something must be wrong with my system but what ??
