better buy a pail of bondo for the rear panel and "surface rust" in the wheel wells by the shocks.

a 1974 2002tii was my 1st car in high school at 16 (1986). I absolutley loved it...it just squatted and bolted everytime you put your foot down. The tii was the original M3...great car. Funny thing though (or not so funny) was it's propensity for rust..ESPECIALLY on the rear shock towers and this one is no exception as the pics show.

It looks like a total rust bucket.
The paint sucks, and the steering wheel sucks.
I drove a 2002 as my first car and it does not handle that good. The turning radius is like a Mack truck. And it has a 4 speed

I would look at one in better shape.

EDIT: That sport steering wheel did not cost $600, maybe $60.

I had a 1976 2002. Bought it in 1979 with 1500 miles. Sahara Beige. Sold it in 1984 with over 200K miles!

Installed Bilsteins HDs and bigger sways. Smaller thicker SW and some german aftermarket exhaust. Sticky tires. Awesome!

Warped the head in high speed run with a early 911 on the Teconic Parkway in US NY. Ha!

Other than the HVAC sucked this was one of my favorite cars of all time.

Thanks for bringing back the memories

I had a 1972 2002tii. Malaga (burgundy) on a tan interior.

It was a fun car for its day. I tuned the suspension (Konis and Michelin XAS tires); handled good for a 1972 sports sedan.

It was like driving a fishbowl, super visibility all the way around.

It was great at the time, but I wouldn't really want one today. Its day in the spotlight is over, imho. It's not that exciting to drive relative to other classic cars out there. It's just a decent handling sedan with a fuel injected small motor.

If you want a vintage BMW, get an E30. They are wonderful, robust cars.

This is gonna sound harsh, but the 2002 is slow (even in Tii form), noisy, and has the structual rigidity of a wet noodle. Oh, and it has the steering precision of a shopping cart and crappy brakes too. Just sayin......

Cheers,
Joe

There's a blast from the past. Drove one for many years.

This one however is a rust bucket. You don't want it. (mint condition my ***!) If you really want one, find one in CA. Still quite a few nice ones out here.

I had a Sahara Beige 1974 2002 in college ... great memories with that car ...

Here is some recent pricing trend data from Keith Martin's collector car newsletter:
