I have drven quite a few Gt3 of various iterations....great engine, but not for me, you have to be going really fast to have some fun, e.g. 125mph in 4th with 2 gears to go!

A Gt3 should be faster on track than a standard 993 by some margin, but once you get to RS specs, the horsepower deficit is less noticeable.
The other thing to consider is the weight if a Gt3, these things are so much more expensive to run on track for consumables than it's lighter aircooled relatives.

So, NO!....I am not considering a GT3, although I may well buy a Lotus Exige S next for road and track use, far lighter and I favour sports cars for fun and have no real use for a lardy GT car.

God intervened- they sold the GT3 yesterday before I could test drive it!

I have thought about it, but I have also considered taking my 97 turbo and "ruf "ng it. The conversion could be just about the difference to get into a 7-8 gt3 and probably less than a 9 gt3???

I can tell you that a spec miata's cornering speeds probably aren't too far off of a stock GT3 with rcomps. I've been on track with good SM drivers quite a few times and those guys are very good at keeping momentum through turns.

whew, i am lost in the post.
but to provide some numbers
my RS was stock, RA1, 2:01:xx at TH over the top
my 996gt3, this one is stock, moton was not on yet. RA1, 2:01:610 at TH over the top
both done in mid 2008, different days however.
on average i am faster in the 6 but 7 is a faster car. i push the 6 harder than the 7. somehow i dont think i will laugh too much if i kissed a wall in my then very new RS.

dave p did 1:58:8 in his GT3, on mpsc, not sure moton or not
jeff R has 4.0 R&P otherwise stock, mpsc, 1:57 at TH
based on these times, tony c will do sub 2:00 in a stock 6GT3, aligned on mpsc or toyo's, probably blind folded. he's at least 2 seconds faster than me, on my good days.

another ref, this is for sears poing
jeff r, stock but 4.0 R&P, hoosiers, 1:47
dave p, stock but moton, mpsc, 1:49:9
john h, stock, r888, 1:52

stock means stock other than safety equipment such as harness, roll bar.
i do run RS29 pads and hi temp fluid

Thanks for the confirmation.

Now, compare those street car times with some cup car times at the last PRC race, both GTA and GTC:

And here's a Thunderhill for the hell of it (no competitive GTC times at all):

Just out of curiosity what is the stock curb weight of a 993? I believe the 6gt3 is around 3075 lbs. Regards. Mike
