Remember when Porsches had two batteries up front? "Dual channel for reliability"...that's foolproof. Any battery, if left too long in a car with even a small, milliamp drain will eventually lose its charge. Buy quality and buy a good trickle charger. That's all anyone can do.

Odyssey 1200. Lighter and better than the stock battery, I am sure.

the idea is to have as much beautiful stuff in the interior of my car that is or isn't Porsche. but the BIG idea is to have as much stuff in the engine bay that ISN'T PORSCHE as is humanly possible up to and including the engine... [here comes the hate mail], lol.

Had a pc680 in the race car for several years. Even hooked up to the battery tender it somehow croaked. Of course I didn't realize it until the day before a DE and ended up going back to a big one...

Is there a solution inbetween the 925 and a "standard" battery? E.g a "fool proof" battery that weighs a little less than the standard battery (but maybe not as light as 23lbs)?
YOU hit it on the head... this is exactly what I'm wondering...

I had the chance to weigh the 925 AND the rennline mount kit and its about 25 lbs... the common 993 battery is about 35lbs...

AND Thanks for all the responses guys!!

I have the same question about the 925. I'm going to need a battery soon and would like to go lighter, but not if it means that I'm going to have a dead battery when the car sits for five days (or longer) without being driven, which sometimes happens. I'm also not interested in having to hook the car up to a battery tender every time I park it. It's a car, not a house pet.

Can any 925 owners share their experiences?

I did in a previous post. It's never been dead. I do try to stick my Battery Tender on it when it sits over a week or so. Maybe you need to check out the 1200 as well.

Noah and OP we all seem too be in the same boat. I figured because I need a new battery anyways I might try the Odyssey. It's not that much more expensive. According to their website, the 925 and 1200 are the same weight.. Is the 1200 more reliable? The good thing about the 925 is the Rennline mounting kit.. I'll have to check if the mounting kit works with the 1200 as well.

Great info Bart, I've read your thread and it seems like a good battery.

Size, weight, and CCA of the 925 and 1200 are different:

Noah,

I have a 925. If I leave my car off of the battery tender for a couple of months and forget to turn the battery cut off switch, it'll be dead. It lives on a tender.

That would apply for most batteries I think. But the 925 would probably be more sensitive to longer periods of sitting still.

Here's what I think...
The odyssey 925 and the rennline mount kit is probably a safe bet...
You'll save a little weight, have decent cranking, ALSO NO battery acid or corrosion!!! ...I forgot about that... and with the kit it bolts right in....

I would be ASSuming the battery would not go dead if you drove your car at least once a week.. which I do...

It's also good advice for all car owners to start and warm up the car every once in a while... BUT Porsche owners of course should be driving them!!!

As for the 1200, weighs pretty much, as much as a stock battery... but you would also have a good, strong, quality battery with the added bonus of no acid or corrosion...
