Default Alarm horn whilst driving

Hi All,

My 993 C4 has developed an interesting issue since we've had mad rain here in London.

I the alarm horn goes off whilst driving down the road, it is constant rather than beeping. Also I have noticed that the interior lights decided to start flashing - This is nice and in keeping with the festive season.

Also the door locks are glowing red, not flashing in keeping with the alarm being activated.

I think that perhaps water has got in to a wiring system and it's shorting somewhere.

Will this disappear once the car dries out? Is this an alternator problem ?

The most important thing is this going to cost me lost of my hard earned cash to sort out?

Cheers

Sunil

I have seen / heard this before a few times and had something similar to this happen to me. Form what I was told, low battery power and faulty alternator can cause this. don't quote me on that tho as this was like 5-6 years ago for me.

Hi,

I would not be surprised by the low battery power as the car only get driven on the weekends.

I think I'll hook up the car to a trickle charger and see what happens.

Cheers

Forkin' immobilizer!!! I had an issue with mine once and it would drive around with the alarm blaring, lights flashing, etc. It fixed itself and no similar problem since. Mine didn't have any battery or alternator problems.

Hi,

Is there a fuse that I could remove to stop this?

Cheers

When mine was doing it, I unplugged the horn. Then you can pull the fuse for interior lights, all 4 turn signals...

It's the devil, I tell you.

Hi,

Silly question, how do I unplug the horn? IE where is it?

Also note it's the alarm horn not the normal horn.

Cheers

It is incredibly loud, you should be able to find it.

It's under the car, toward the back.

Hope Bill doesn't mind my posting this pic he just posted in another thread, but the horn can just barely be seen at the top left of this pic, by the heater tube:

Hi,

Actually I don't think it's anything sinister after all. I think it's just the fact that the battery was really drained. I only drive the car on the weekends and last night the alarm went off as the battery died.

Can you circle the horn as I am too stupid to find it on the picture.

Cheers

You cant really see it, but one you get up under there, you'll find it. It's on the left (US driver's side) of the car just on top of the belly pan.
