LWF, RS Clutch, Guard LSD, Fabspeed ECU upgrade
My 1997 Carrera S just received its 60k service. Here's a list of the new upgrades installed while it was in the shop:
- RS LWF
- RS clutch
- Guard LSD (60/40)
- Fabspeed ECU upgrade (299 hp / 268 torque)
- Bridgestone RE050A tires
I picked up the car two days ago from Park Place Porsche in Dallas, where Mark Giardina did all the work. One word...WOW!!
The car is dramatically faster. I can't tell how much of the increased speed is due to the lighter flywheel or the ECU upgrade, but what I can say is that the car absolutely flies! The engine spools up much faster than before in all gears and all speeds, and I find myself grinning ear to ear every time I put my right foot down. I have had no stalling issues with the LWF and the much talked about noise is highly exaggerated. For anyone replacing their clutch, I highly recommend the LWF.
Soon I'll head to the track and test out the new Bridgestone RE050A tires and Guard LSD. Full report to follow.
Feels like a new car!

Fabspeed says HP jumps to 299 at 6,300 RPM and torque goes to 268 at 5,250 RPM. I generally trust Fabspeed and believe the numbers, although no dyno work was done. Ideally I would have done the flywheel and ECU at different times to get a better sense of the incremental speed improvements from each. I got impatient, though, and decided to do it all at the same time!
