Default WTB: hood

As some of you might recall, a couple of summers ago someone sat on the hood of my car and caved it in. I've had a fiberglass one on ever since, and at this point would like to put a steel one back on. If any of you track guys want a fiberglass one, we can include it as part of a trade. It fits pretty well. If you're in the NYC/New England area, even better.

Don't these pop out easily? My hood was sat on as well, but all I have is a wide, shallow dimple that I believe can be knocked out with paintless dent removal of some sort.

I popped it out, but it was full of ripples. I should say that my hood wasn't so much sat on, as it was used as a barstool by some fat, drunk chick who thought it would be really cool to drink a couple of Coronas on a Porsche (the empty bottles were conveniently left under the front bumper).

Man, that sucks.

Mine happened when I went to a nice restaurant in a not so nice part of town. Sounds like my hood didn't get quite the abuse yours did.

What's the issue with your fiberglass one? Weight reduction wouldn't be a bad thing...

Deja vu in a lot of ways for me. At my 40th birthday party, a fat, drunk chick (former client) wanted to pose on the hood of my car. My good friend Robb emphatically told her, "Melissa, I guarantee that Mark will kill you if you sit on the hood of his car." She wisely opted to not sit on the hood of my car.

WTF is wrong with people??

For real. And the biggest bitch of the whole situation is that shipping a hood is all but out of the question -- it's huge and heavy and delicate. Not a good combo. So not only do I have to find one, but I have to find one that's more or less local to me. Good times.

I would keep the glass one -- and actually was intending to -- but it really just doesn't fit well enough for a street car. It's starting to annoy me. I did something really neat with it, though. I ground off the front latch mounting area -- actually the forwardmost 12" of subframe. I then cut the same section out of the stock hood -- that is, the frame non-skin part of the hood that the latch mounts to -- and using some high-tech bonding epoxy, glued the steel latch panel to the glass hood. So that part of it is awesome. But the curvature of the hood just doesn't match the 993 body.

As far as I know, there's not a damned thing you can do about problems like that. Fiberglass can't be bent like a metal.

Here's a pic of the glass hood -- rattle-can painted flat black. This picture is deceptive. It doesn't fit that well on the driver's side.

And the underside, with the grafted on latch panel, and another pic where I used my awesome photoshop skillz to show the bowed-out area of the hood. The pictures make it look more innocuous than it actually is. (I had the bumper cover off to replace the AC fan resistor and also to fill in the bumperette cutouts.)

Thanks Tom, but unfortunately the 993 hood is unique -- it's ever so slightly different than a 911 hood.

lucky! That would have been disaster.
people really are that stupid when it comes to cars. It's just a car, right?
This is why most people's cars look like a piece a crap after a year. Even high end cars.

WTF is wrong with people....I think many people don't know how hard it is to make a decent buck, or even know what hard work is. It makes it so easy to just disrespect others property, or even begin to understand why any of us would care about a car.
