Default Help with wheel repair

Can anyone recomend a source for curb rash refinish for a chromed 18" rear wheel from my 98 C2S? I live in Portsmouth, NH (one hr N of Boston).
Thanks, Chris

Go to a newstand and browse through the "classified" ads in the back of Road&Track and Car&Driver. You will find a number of small ads for shops that refinish alloy wheels. You will have to remove the tire and ship the wheel to them. I think I recall several of them in the Phila. Pa area.

PM&N: Can you tell me if this ad runs regularly in R&T/C&D? I'm in Philly area and am looking to do the same. TIA

As for wheel refurbishment/repair, the quality of such is very much dependent on the skill set of the repair shop. If you want your wheel refurbished to perfection, contact Dave or Alan at Wheel Enhancement (see http://www.wheelenhancement.com/index.php). They are Porsche wheel specialists and do top notch work. Highly recommended.

Besides R&Track and Car&Driver, just Google "alloy wheel repair" and you will see at least a hundred hits. If the shop recommended above specializes in Porsche wheels, then use them.

To do a proper repair on a chromed wheel my understanding is that the chrome must first be removed, the repair then made, and the wheel rechromed. The cost to do this would likely exceed what you would expend by just selling the old wheel and having a replacement wheel chromed.

If it were just a normal painted alloy wheel there are a number of places who could repair it including some that will come to your home and make the repair in your driveway for under $100.

I used Rimpro in Tewksbury, Ma and I was very satisfied. Although my wheels were not
chromed.

Wheel Collision Center in Bath, PA is fairly close. I've used them and like their work. Sports Car Tire in Wilmington, DE is another alternative but I have no direct experience with them.

For the OP, Rimpro in Tewksbury, Mass advertises in Roundel as does Wheel Collision.

Alloy Wheel Repair Specialists is a franchise company that I used to have my wife's SL55 rims repaired. Nice job at a fair price.
I see that have a guy in Beford, NH. Phone: 603-315-5859, Name: Bruce Gelinas

I've used Wheel Enhancement in CA, and they were way more expensive and the work was not any better than this other company. Plus you'll have a big freight bill on top of the repair bill.
