When I installed the FDM SSK and Golden Rod I also installed the RUF Aluminum & Leather shifter. It's wicked expensive....but factoring in how many times I touch this part when the car is in use, totally worth it (for me anyway). I replaced the round carbon one that was already an upgrade but the lever itself always felt too high IMO. The FDM SSK is also the "shortened" version (the RS kit sits a little higher out of the box from Porsche according to FDM) so I thought why not and am very happy with the overall result.

We don't take anything off of the RS lever height unless someone wants it cut down.
The RS shift lever is 1" taller than the standard lever. If you want it a bit shorter, it is only a matter of cutting the top of the lever.
This is more commonly done when using a taller shift **** but some prefer the lever a bit lower even with the standard ****.

Hi Mark. I have the RS SSK with the carbon 993 turbo S (OEM) shift ****. It sits too high for my comfort. From your experience how much should I cut the RS SSK down by? Is it just a matter of getting the hack saw out? Can it be done in situ?
(PS Jamie has sent the rod to you will be with you in a week or so :-))

M,
We do offer to cut down the shift lever for those who request it. We cut the shift lever at the bottom of the two notches at the top of the lever. This removes the right amount to allow the shift **** to sit at the original height. We do it before it's installed using a grinder with a cutting wheel. It can be done in place with a hacksaw, but I would drape something around it so you don't get metal shavings inside your car.
Thanks for the heads up on the shift rod.

i have a standard 997 **** in carbon/aluminum... anyone have a solution for how to make it fit on the 993. [in my case i drive a a 968], but i will be coming into a 993 in a few months, thanks to papa in law, and i assume the same answer applies to both cars.

Yes $400 from RUF in TX. Also, to the question about a 997 shifter in a 993 there was a recent thread about how to make it fit, relatively easy mod, suggest search.
This slope is just so darn steep...I'm headed for a short ratio gearbox, GT2 uprights/RS tierods, ERP toe links and maybe Recaro's all for next year I hope. The FDM Stage III's soon....
