Performance mods for 1996 911 C2
#16
9m Heads, Machine-in 3.8L pistons and cylinders, pauter rods, race cams, switch to a MAP sensor, full Motec, bigger injectors.
Its really easy if you have the entire cost of the car to spend all over again.

I think the point here, which has been repeated in many such threads, is that Porsche did not leave a lot on the table in terms of performance. These cars are not like Hondas or Subarus where you can go buy a bolt-on this or that and get more power out of the engine. It's a very well egineered package, and to achieve any real gains, you have to spend some serious dough, at which point you might as well sell the car and buy a turbo.

I'd get rid of weight, from the ends and high as best to whittle down, get rid of the US bumpers or mod to get rid of the US safety pads,
swiss cheese the bumper
seats are fairly easy to swap out removing interior carpet & sound deadening and rear seats is also fairly easy. Strip the trunk and rear heater blower, change the washer bottle to RS, remove the lid shocks and replace w/ RS prop.
All 993 that are used seriously need to have great wheels/tires/shocks they also need to replace all the rubber suspension bushes w/ RS for a street car and monoball for a track car along w/ replacing the rubber side mounts w/ solid versions.
I had mine down to ~2700 but then had to add a second oil cooler, RS brakes and a roll bar, It's now ~ 2800 which is close to my '76 Which is simlarly equipped

You'll need to machine the case for these to fit (since they are the 109mm variant). Also, the pistons will require RSR type rods (might as well get some pauters) dunno about the condition of the rings and you can p/u some RS camshafts:

For only $1k more. Then youll want steve weiner to redo your heads with the larger valves that flow better than the RS ones.

The net results, while certainly not cheap, do make a very noticable difference in performance.
JMHO, but I'd install close-ratio gears, RS LWF, RS cams and ECU programming before doing the 3.8 upgrade unless one was predisposed to rebuild the engine.

Don't forget the ECU re-programming needed for the above modifications,.....

When it comes to valve sizes, port sizes & port geometry, bigger is not always better. In the case of the 993 head, a bigger RS intake valve only works because the intake port is oversize to begin with, hence it's working as a band-aid for the intrinsically poor head design, but if you are going to get the best from this combination you have to be careful to select appropriate tuning parts to complete the package, so don't stray too far from the stock RS combinations.
