Default Everyone happy who have gone with M033?

I'm planning suspension upgrades for this spring, and I'm really leaning towards the M033 springs, probably with Bilstein HD shocks. The car is my travelin' car, and I actually like the feel of the orginal ride, and only hit the track to do those things you can't do on a public road.

But at 50,000 miles its time to renew the suspension. I thought I'd ask if anyone went to the M033 springs, and then regretted not going with something stiffer.

Many thanks for your thoughts.

+993M033!!
You beat me to this post! I was about to post exactly the same thing.
I have just ordered HDs plus M033, to be fitted in a couple of weeks time, so hopefuly the answers are positive. I do not intend to track my car but want a firm (but not too firm) ride. I probably have until tomorrow in order to change my mind and go for the M030s but doubt will change my mind.

I can give you some feedback soon as I switch!

Cheers

Phil

I almost bought a set of euro m033 off eBay because I thought I wanted to keep the stock spring rate but wanted to lower the car. When I didn't get them, I decide to go with the m030 w/ bilsteins and am glad I did. Even though I drive and live in the big bad city with a gazillion pot holes, the suspension is not too harsh (although I do try to avoid those pot holes). In fact, the other day I though the spring rate and dampening, if anything, weren't aggressive enough.

Of course, YMMV, as this is all very personal. But if you venture onto the track at all, I would suggest going m030 instead....

I find that the M030 rides fine around here.

I don't know why people raves about M033 with Bilstein shocks. The spring rate and shock valving are mismatched resulting in an unpleasant ride.

Best post so far. The HDs are valved stiffly. I use H&Rs red sport springs and it's a tight combo. PSS10 would have been a better choice, I think.

I get the feeling that this is like asking "what's the best color for a Porsche?". I am looking at replacement of my stock system after 50K miles and I am leaning towards PSS10. I won't be on the track, yet I want a good sporty suspension and I want to lower the car to RoW ride height purely for looks. I also don't want such a harsh ride that it shakes the crap out of me when I drive over a pothole.

+(MO)30. If anything, MO30 is a bit soft, so I don't see the point of MO33 either. You'll be fine...just do it!

Hi There

I have just got some Bilstein HD's and will be getting MO33's. I would not even consider the MO30 on the UK roads I drive on. I have driven Lotuses for years and the one thing that really sets them above other cars is always the ride quality (for the type of car). They always have softer springs and stiffer dampers relative to the competition. If you want a tight 993 then fit RS spec bushes and mounts all round inc the subframe and steering arms. That will make a real difference.

IMHO that is, but it is what I am in the process of doing.

I was headed the direction of MO33 and went with PSS10 - I've never looked back nor regretted my decision.

+1 and I have the large H&R sways too. The roads here are bad.

I've had the M033 with HD's for 5 years now, I think the PSS10's would be a better choice. The HD's are overdampened, giving a bouncy ride on less than perfect road surfaces.

I realize that suspension set-ups are very personal, but that's why we ask for other's experience. I've searched every post in Rennlist I can find. One that gave me most pause for thought was here:
https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...de-height.html Rbenz went from PSS9 to M033.

Since the shocks seem to be one of the biggest problems, as the Bilsteins are pretty stiff. Has anyone re-valved their HDs to match the M033 or M030 springs?

Thanks for all your input, much appreciated.

Does Bilstein offer a softer damped shock other than HD's in the U.S.? I know you can have them rebuild your HD's to softer settings..

My 2 cents. I remember a conversation I had with Andial several years ago..... and it was excellent advice. I had a '96 cab I wanted to lower. I'm also a big fan of the 18" sport classics. He suggested that the combination of 18's and euro MO30 package would be too much..... or more specifically too stiff. After 3 years driving the car (and experiencing cowl shake for the first time), I finally came to the conclusion he was right on the mark. I've since sold the car and bought a '97. My solution this time was the euro M033 with stock shocks (Monroe I think), I couldn't be happier. I'm very aware of other solutions, but Gert's package for 695 euro was too good to pass up and I'm very pleased. I'm also aware of the consequences of mismatched suspensions. I put stock rate but lower ride heights on my 335 and it turns out lower springs with stock rates does not offer enough travel for the bad bumps. Alternately the race suspension on my track car would NEVER be acceptable on the street. Definitely consider wheel size when making your decision. Hope that helps somewhat.
