OT: 1 night in Austin, where to go?
Calling the RL Travel Agency & Tourist Information Office...
I'll be in Austin this weekend to see some family and have Friday night to see some of 6th st (maybe a few hours Sunday night if I'm lucky). Where are the best places for some great music? The best blues? If it involves slide blues guitar, even better!
What else is on the Austin "must see" list?
Best BBQ joint?
Most interesting place to eat (other than BBQ)?
Any good areas to stay Friday night walking distance to 6th st?
Many thanks in advance!

For nightlife, I would work around Antone's on 5th street. It's the mother ship. Stevie Ray Vaughn played there a lot.
I'm a huge Yelp believer. For BBQ, Lambert's on 2nd would probably work:

For non-BBQ, these look good:

Most of the clubs list their schedule on Pollstar.

check the elephant room on congress, they usually post their schedule online... this is a cool little hotel on south congress http://www.sanjosehotel.com/#/rooms/ and if you stay down there the continental club doesnt get rockin until around 11pm...

Best BBQ? Try Cooper's in Llano. Great place, and scenic drive out there. Music - yeah, Antone's and Continental Club. Both good choices. Lots to do/see on South Congress while you are there. I'm not too keen on 6th Street...it's a bit touristy. You might try Red River north of 6th Street instead. Other places to check while you are here: Barton Springs Pool, as the weather is supposed to be great this weekend. Great suggestion on staying at the San Jose. If they have space, do it!! Great, great space, directly across from Continental Club. It's a cab ride from 6th street.

Ditto on the Antone's recommendation for Blues. Continental club is always good (on S. Congress). But, it's Austin...you can find good music everywhere. For BBQ you can try the Green Mesquite on Barton Springs at Lamar. Try www.austin360.com for local music reviews, restaurants and schedules. Enjoy.

Stubbs onred river is a good place to listen to some music.
Depends on whos playing. Check the Austin chronicle they have great music listing.
this is the best time to be in town not hot!

I knew I could count on the RL crowd for good advice (on how to spend money!!! ) I'll be staying at the Driskill tomorrow night, finding some BBQ for dinner and meeting a college buddy to head to Nuno's. Might wander to Antone's or Continental Club as well.
Was reading about TC's Lounge....sounds very hole in the wall. Good/bad/otherwise?
Saturday up to Georgetown to visit relatives, and back down late Sunday to a very non-Driskill hotel near the airport to catch an ugly-early flight back Monday morning.
Thanks for the good ideas!
