I have had a similar lift for a few years now. Very sturdy and more secure (-looking) than some other scissor lift posted on this site as the base is wider. Only issue is getting to the oil reservoir drain bolt - need to position the car carefully to make sure the bolt and the drain protrudes out far enough or you will get oil all over the platform. It is a great buy for those of you into DIY.

The clear space underneath the chassis is a big plus over the scissor lift.
Large filter replacement is not an issue - draining oil requires a little bit of thought into positioning of the vehicle.

RSman:

can you describe the make and model of your lift? I've looked at about 14 different models on the Internet, and most of the mid-rise lifts look pretty spindly.

Sorry,

haven't looked at this thread for a while as my hard drive died!
It looks very much like the OP's lift. In UK it was branded as Hoffman's.
I haven't taken any pictures as my garage is a little messy!

I'm considering one of these due to its narrower width...

here is their site.

I am considering one too even if 2 posts are available and cheaper here but are made in China. These Nussbaums are german made.

Default nussbaum lift

its a very good lift. its way more beefier than the one posted from youtube. the hydraulic rams are 2x the size of the china copy. what they do not mention is the nussbaum has an emergency down release in case of hydraulic/motor/power loss. so you can get your car down safely which non of the other lift have. this is important as if your car is stuck up on a lift it will be a pain to get down without it. you just have to remove the cover off the control tower and push 2 buttons. i know there are cheaper lifts but you cannot appreciate this lift till you see it in person, its quality all the way around, my only gripe is i wish the manual was in english. if i had to do it agin i would bye it. remember there are many lifts but for my situation this is best, its portable although heavy, but i can position anywhere in the garage which is nice.

any other question i will be happy to answer.

Try about 2 posts up or...

Are those short ramps at the ends hard to drive up on?

Yea, 'cause all of us got so much wood left from the crate we have to use it somewhere Seriously it's the perfect thing within 2 ft of my reach. I will use hockey pucks next time and see if it works too.

The owner-frabricated ramp in the background has nothing to do with this lift as far as I can tell (dutchcrunch please correct me if I'm wrong). Driving up the built-in ramp (about 16" x 12") is super easy with some finesse. Also, driving over the lift every time when you park is a little inconvenient but it won't hurt the lift at all since when it's lowered, everything is folded up tightly against each other.

If I'm not mistaken, the Hemi lift is very similar to the very popular Bendpak MD-6XP. If so, you can't just drive over it. You have to build ramps around it.

Also, the Hemi lift has a footprint of 39" (wide). The Nussbaum is 69" wide. No comparison in terms of stability for sure. But of course the Hemi/Bandpak should cost a lot less though.
