Default do 993 C4 use the same LSD than 964 C4 ?

Folks I have a question : does the 993 C4 and turbo use the same LSD with the hydraulic actuator managed by the ABS than on the 964 C4 ?

I heard that Porsche had simplified the traction system on the 993 and didn't reuse this very cool design to save cost on the ABS and traction systems... true ?

Thanks

The two systems are completely different. The 993 system is much less complex. If you do a search, you'll see there has been much written on the subject.

I've read 4 articles since I've posted and if these describe how the visco-coupler manages to send tork to the front, I couldn't find anything about the rear LSD : 100% mechanical or still computer assisted ?

Since there was the ADB in place, I guess the 993 gearbox was fully mechanical and had no 'electric' LSD...

OK got it :

Both the center LSD and rear LSD were now pure mechanical, but clever electronics was used in the newly-added ABD (Automatic Brake Differential). Again, ABD was simple yet effective. It was just a program, sharing all the hardware with ABS. Whenever rear wheels spin, it braked the spinning wheel thus the rear differential would send more torque to the other wheel. It was particularly useful for extreme conditions such as on snow, while LSD covered most normal conditions.

That is consistent with what I think I know. I also have read that the C4 has different gearing - do you know if that's true?

Quick Reply: do 993 C4 use the same LSD than 964 C4 ?
