Default Cabrio, rear speaker change question

Hello audio experts,
I have a 97 C2 Cabrio and I wanted to exchange the rear speakers, running the HiFi option with the Nokia under the passenger seat.
The 4" speakers have 12 ohms, what a odd design. I want to keep the factory amp for now. What options do I have with replaceing that speaker?
If I go with a 2 way 4 ohm, the amp will most likely run hot and turn off or burn out.
I'd appreciate any ideas.
Thanks.

Change the amp. I did never looked back. I know you wanted to keep it for now, but that really is the best option IMHO. I think the stock stereo is a POS even with the HiFi Sound Package. People always say they would rather listed to the music of the flat 6, but a nice sound system has its place as well. Just an opinion.

I did not bother to upgrade my amp. I did replace the speakers, front and rear.
I replaced my rear speakers with Boston Acoustics CX4. They are 2-way and the impedance is 4 ohms.
After four years, they are still sound good to me.

I did not have the Hi-Fi option but did change the speakers on my '97 Cab. I would recommend staying away from the 2 ohm replacements, you would really need an amp designed to run that low to use them. I would think 4 ohm would be fine.

In the cab, even more so than the coupe, don't even waste any money on rear speakers unless you are adding low bass/ sub in the floorboard area.

I observed a vast improvement over stock with just upgrading the rear speakers, maybe it's because with my long legs my seat is all the way back and I was closer to them. Not to say it wouldn't be far superior going the full Monty though.

Don't expect to hear much cruising at highway speeds though.
